Resumen del Editor

What do you do when you have the wrong superpowers?

Magenta's older brother is a superhero. She's starting high school at the school where kids with powers go, including the famous Inscrutable Machine. Except, Magenta's powers are no good for fighting. Her potions are useful, not dangerous. Her other power is just humiliating. What Magenta has plenty of is determination, and she tries fighting a supervillain anyway.

She fails.

But for Magenta, failure is the beginning, not the ending. Suddenly she has a part-time job working for that same supervillain, who doesn't seem very villainous. She spends her afternoons buying mad science from smugglers, copying memories into a magic book, delivering messages to evil lawyers, and always, always, putting on a show. Soon, she's ducking heroes who want to save her from herself, and her best friends, who don't know the sidekick they're chasing is Magenta.

Making sure her parents don't find out is the easy part.

great story but the editing could use some work

i loved every aspect of this book, except the editing, mistakes by the narrator were left in, pauses seemed unnaturally long and at least once a clip was played twice. other than that it was just as good as the other books in this series, a bit different tone but not in a bad way and i did like that we got new characters.

A good return to the Please Don't Tell universe

This book was fun. The characters are likeable and the story is interesting. It'll never top the first book in the series, but I think that's because the first book has so much world building to do, whereas this one just has to tell a new story in a familiar setting.
I only have two complaints - the reader goes a bit slowly, so it's best to turn the playback speed up a little, and we still don't get to see my favorite secondary character, Lucy Far; she's explicitly stated to be out of town partway through the book. Bummer.
Still, if you like the Please Don't Tell My Parents universe, you will probably enjoy this edition to it.

Somewhat Sad and Somewhat Excited

I am disappointed that the original main character wasn't in this book. i would have liked to hear about how she is dealing with the loss of her powers. instead we are treated to a new main character with unique powers.

The worst part of this audiobook was the narrator. She left in several mistakes and retakes. I hope that Richard gets the original narrator to redo this book.

Quirky Teenage Superhero

I had fun with this title. Though I am new to this series, it was easy to follow along as it seems the characters are all new in this book. The voices and storyline are kooky and strange but made it entertaining!

Totally Different from Others in the series

Totally different and new characters but still an interesting read. There was some getting used to with the new characters and new narration, but overall worth the credit.
Others noted issues with the editing of the narration, but they must have fixed the errors because my copy did not have any problems. Glad they fixed it.

it was wonderful getting back into this world

the story falls a bit too close to Bad Penny in generalized outline. but I still loved every moment of it. I sincerely hope Roberts continues to return to this series.

that said, I wish there was more communication on the release of this book. I have subscribed to his newsletter and check in on his blog regularly. both of which seemed to never be updated after saying he was going to make a new book in this world. I found this one was out merely because I went in for reading the original books again.

Returned this book

I returned this book which is a very rare thing for me to do. I found the story weak and the editing of the narration poor. There are several instances in which edits are not removed; you get to listen to reading errors and emphasis changes that should have been deleted.
Not worth the cost.

Please don't tell the author

I LOVE the "Please don't tell my parents" series. I came into this book knowing that it wasn't about the Inscrutable Machine, but excited none the less. Unfortunately I don't feel like this book lived up to the others in the series. All the others have a sense of light heartedness that this book is lacking. Even during the really tense moments, the other books still managed to make you have fun. This book falls down in that regard. It just felt like the whole book was doom and gloom. I realize that some people will tell me that because the book is set in high school now instead of junior high that it's darker tones are supposed to show that the characters are growing up, but I still feel like all sense of wonderment and fun has been drained from it. I get that growing up brings with it knowledge that take the shine off the world, but I don't feel like that covers for how gloomy the MC and the book as a whole feels.
