A proud and spirited woman whose life was stolen from her... A man of secrets accused of a terrible crime... In a place of new beginnings their destinies are joined—in a gloriously romantic new work from the incomparable storyteller.

The fiery and outspoken adopted daughter of one of England's most formidable a women, Shemaine O'Hearn has made powerful enemies. And now her adversaries have found a way to remove the hot-blooded beauty from her life of privilege: by falsely convicting Shemaine of thievery and sending her in shackles to America, where she is to be sold in indentured servitude to the highest bidder.

In a bustling port city in the colony of Virginia, she becomes the servant of Gage Thornton—a shipbuilder with a young child in need of a nanny. And despite whispered rumors condemning the handsome widower for the untimely death of his wife, Shemaine cannot ignore her desire for this caring, generous and enigmatic stranger who silently aches with his growing need for her—even as grave peril reaches out from across a vast ocean to threaten their flowering love. The fiery and outspoken adopted daughter of one of England's most formidable women, Shemaine O'Hearn has made powerful enemies. And now her adversaries have found a way to remove the hot-blooded beauty from her life of privilege: by falsely convicting Shemaine of thievery and sending her in shackles to America, where she is to be sold in indentured servitude to the highest bidder.

Petals on the River was the first book I ever read was Kathleen Woodiwiss. However, that copy was out of print for many years and I didn’t know when it will become available as a commercial audio book again. Their was version from The Library for the Blind. However, I really didn’t care for the narrator. This new version is great. I liked all the character voices. This is book that I will read again and again and I’m glad to have it in my library. If you are looking for a great historical romance then grab this book!

So glad to have this book finally available

I've read this book several times since it's publication. the narrator did an excellent job of bringing it to life!! yes! to traditional values of marriage before sex, fidelity, and plenty of sensual love scenes without being vulgar. and, yet again as in other woodiwiss books by audible a hearty "NO!" to the insulting and woke forward! do yourself a favor and skip the forward! otherwise, delicious story and can't praise narrator Cassandra York highly enough!!!

wonderful!

The narrator did an outstanding job interpreting the intended voices of the characters which enriched the immersion into the story. Most of the characters were very well described and written. One thing that seemed a little unrealistic were some of the capabilities of the young child, likely not appropriate for the child’s age of 2. But otherwise very good read. Worth the purchase!

Great narration!

could not wait to get back to it every chance I could. trying to imagine rooms, ship, wood shop, even the smells of the old trunks was easy because the writing made it easy.

delicious details
