Acerca de esta escucha

In this newest installment of the best-selling Prehistoric North America series, animals and humans are struggling for survival amidst massive environmental change.

Mammoths, mastodons, and giant lions have become extinct, and Rain Bear, the chief of Sandy Point Village, knows his struggling Raven People may be next. One day a beautiful red-haired woman, Evening Star, stumbles into his council lodge and begs him for sanctuary. He soon learns that she's an escaped slave from the North Wind People, a Caucasoid race and the Raven People's mortal enemies. If he offers to protect her, the North Wind People will attack, but if he sends her back, Rain Bear knows Evening Star will be tortured and perhaps killed. When she warns him that warriors are already on their way, Rain Bear must decide if his people should run or prepare for a war that could result in their demise.

I really enjoyed People of the Raven as it speculated on the realism faced by people in conflict with each other, the lands they inhabited and their spiritual beliefs.

A very interesting treatise exploring possibilities of our ancient past.

I have been reading the People series for nearly 30 years! I have finished all that have been published so far & am anxiously awaiting Lightning Shell, the final book, to come out next week. I am currently reading my way back through the series, reading them in chronological order this time, & because it has been 18 years since I read this book, plus the fact that I am both reading AND listening to it, it was like reading a brand new book! As per normal for the books written by W. Michael & Kathleen O'Neal Gear, both the story & the characters are well written, rich with historical knowledge, & very enjoyable! These two, using their experience as archeologists & anthropologists, make these books to be educational in addition to being fun to read! I simply love them! The books AND the authors! The Audible narration is good, the voice clear. I truly appreciate having names pronounced for me! There were several places where the narration covered passages that were not in my book, but that caused a problem only the first time! I highly recommend this Audible rendition & suggest to pair it with reading if you can.

Excellent! Great story with good character development. Additional resources provide insight into the climate, culture, and struggles these people faced.

another wonderful story

This book is as captivating as their other books. It keeps you in suspense the entire time waiting to figure out what each person's path is within and how it will effect the outcome of power..

Seems like Michael Gear and Kathleen O'Neil Gear have gotten to be even better storytellers over time. The narrator's voice was a little deep but after some adjustments to the bass quality I got used to him. I really enjoyed the plots, twists and turns of this story. Wish more of North America's Forgotten Past were available in audiobook format!

I liked this book in the series the best since far

I enjoyed this audiobook. I have listened to a couple of the audio books from this author . I believe this one and People of the Wolf are the best 2 I have heard so far.

Would you recommend this book to a friend? Why or why not?

I don't think I would recommend to anyone interested in this series. At least not this book.

What could Kathleen O'Neal Gear and W. Michael Gear have done to make this a more enjoyable book for you?

They should put the reader in the area of 40 thousand years ago. The language that the clans used was that of a college professor. Their conversations with each other were completely unbelievable. The people of the raven or any other tribe/clan would not be using this advanced vocabulary during this time period. I would have liked to know how they grew their food, hunted, and gathered, made and used tools, and lived day to day. I understand they needed the drama of "conflict" and "sex" but.... Having grown up in the Pacific Northwest, I would have liked to hear of some geographic similarities. We have many beautiful scenes here, I'm pretty sure Mt Rainier, Mt. St. Helen's, and the others in the Cascades and Olympic areas were here. Having just returned from Kennewick, I think they could have described the area better. What were the people were seeing, and put the reader there. To the east are the plains, and high desert of Washington and Oregon, to the south the Columbia River, to the west the Central Cascade mountain range that stretches from Canada to California. The weather is extreme in the high desert. Summers are very hot and can be in the 90's and 100's for days. Winters are harsh, snow is common and measured in feet. Very cold, and weeks of temperatures in the 20's or lower. Overall...... Disappointing.

What three words best describe Grover Gardner’s performance?

I liked his performance. It's too bad that he had to read a novel that read like a college thesis. These people did not speak to each other with type of vocabulary. The people in 2012 don't converse with this vocabulary, I'm pretty sure the people of 40 thousand years ago had a more simple vocabulary.

Do you think People of the Raven needs a follow-up book? Why or why not?

They have follow up books, although not all of them are in audio versions that are downloadable most are still on CD's.

Any additional comments?

I have removed the remainder of the " People " series from my wish list.

Not what I expected... Disappointing...
