What if Mr. Darcy refused to walk away?

In this emotionally rich Pride and Prejudice variation, Fitzwilliam Darcy does not surrender to rejection. After the disastrous proposal at Hunsford, he does not vanish -- he chooses to stay and fight for the woman he loves.

A slow-burn Regency romance filled with honour, wit, and second chances.

When Mr. Darcy returns to Hertfordshire with renewed clarity, humility, and purpose, Elizabeth Bennet finds herself challenged in ways she never expected. She is no longer the woman she was in Kent -- and he is no longer the man she believed him to be.

Their journey unfolds not in dramatic declarations but in quiet gestures, emotional honesty, and persistent love.

From the author of Dear Sir and More Discerning, this character-driven retelling reimagines Jane Austen’s beloved story with:

  • Clean historical romance with emotional depth
  • Second-chance love and friends-to-lovers arcs
  • A more emotionally articulate Darcy
  • A heroine who learns to trust again -- slowly, honestly, beautifully

For fans of Austen adaptations, gentle angst, and romances built on growth and respect.

Will Elizabeth open her heart once more?
Will Darcy’s persistence finally win her love?

Rediscover Austen’s world—this time with a hero who will not let go.

I very much enjoyed this variation. The author writes very well, there is more depth and some humor to the story. I like this version of Jane and that she ends up with a better man than Bingley. Unlike most variations, Darcy’s older Fitzwilliam cousin, the Viscount, is teamed up with Darcy rather than the Colonel. I will be listening to this story again. Too bad it is Virtual Voice, but it is pretty decent - I easily overlooked flaws.

Very Good Variation <> Decent Narration

Pride & Prejudice has been my favorite book for nearly 30 years. This variation is really great. I thoroughly enjoyed it. However, it does not have a human narrator, just virtual voice, which was not very good. There was no variation in voices between characters. Also, it often used the wrong pronouns, which at times was confusing & other times just annoying. And, it often did not have the proper inflections so sentences did not sound like a human would say them.

Great story, terrible narration

In this book Darcy gets support by his cousin the Vicomte Philip. They buy Netherfield and starts a new project together. I liked this Darcy very much. He dealt with both Wickham and Bingley. Great read. Great Jaff.

Jane is terribly out of character in this story - she shows a lot of disregard for Elizabeth's feelings and treats her coldly. Her reaction wouldn't be unreasonable for many people, but is entirely out of character for Jane Bennett.

It took me entirely out of the story.

Jane at one point says that she thinks that Lizzie needs to be put in her place, and continually thinks of Darcy as being cruelly rejected.

The way that Jane, the viscount and Darcy treat her all make me feel that Lizzie should absolutely reject him.

They all seem to disregard how terribly he had treated her for months - her rejection was entirely correct. Instead they encourage almost stalker like behavior and romanticize it.

It really makes me angry how much Lizzie's feelings are invalidated.

Darcy sneaks back into town and doesn't reach out to Mr Bennett to declare his intentions and apologize for the way that he left. So much of Darcy's behavior is a breech of propriety.
