The book was good as always....I like the people that did the narration better than most. look forward to hearing more

The story itself wasn't bad. I was able to figure out the ending nearly halfway through the book. My only complaint would be how fast everything happened with Laurel and Matthew. One minute they dislike each other. The next, he kisses her. Then they have 4 drinks and kiss. The next day, she loses her virginity. The next day, their engaged. I understand that during the year prior, Matthew had feelings for her and showed it by constantly picking on her and annoying her, but still, the way their relationship evolved was way too fast.

Worth the listen

Not Nora’s best work but the story holds true to form. Narration difficult to listen when using male character voices. Seems there is not enough range available to her natural voice to make the jump.

Mediocre at best

Definitely not one of Nora Roberts' better reads. Story is rather dull and difficult to get interested in. It had the potential to be a good book, but just didn't make it.

A Good Story

4.5 stars ⭐️ Matthew (a chain smoker) and Laurel are journalists working together on a story to uncover if Anne’s death was an accidental snake bite from a copperhead after getting lost in an eerie swamp or was she murdered. Matthew wants Laurel and he teases her, but is protective of her as they dig deeper towards the truth of what happened in that swamp. They also fell in love as they grew closer, sharing bits of their selves with each other. I enjoyed the romance and the suspense plot. It does feel its age with the amount of references to Matthew’s nasty habit.
