Operation Resolute

The Obsidian Sector, Book 1

Narrado por: Tee Quillin

They exiled him to the backwaters of space. Now he must rally a failing crew to face an enemy no one saw coming.

Commander Owen Shaw was cleared of all charges in his mutiny trial, but his new assignment aboard the CSS Resolute feels more like punishment than a fresh start. Guarding the backwater Obsidian Sector, the massive battleship is plagued by an undisciplined crew, a drunk engineer, and a complacent captain who'd rather coast than lead.

Shaw is determined to whip the Resolute back into shape, even if it feels like a lost cause.

Because something is going on in the Obsidian Sector: a mysterious explosion at a space station, a colony that's gone silent, and strange reports of an unknown battleship flying without colors.

With the threat of an unknown enemy looming, Shaw must step up, rally the crew, and face a deadly battle that could determine the fate of the Obsidian Sector—and the Confederation itself.

Operation Resolute is a fast-paced military sci-fi novel for fans of Galactica and Voyager. It's the first book in the Obsidian Sector series.

EXCELLENT FIRST IN SERIES. I should know—

The relatively few reviewers giving it a 3.7 rating is why it is generally good to understand “lies, damn lies, and statistics.”

I have well over a thousand Audible books over more than 20 years, hundreds of SF titles, a degree in hard science (well; this book is not as great in hard science…), and some USA military experience.

The MC takes form in a competent, yet maligned, military officer in the role of a tough, by-the-books XO. This character and several other officers are well developed in a relatively short time, and the story explodes towards the end.

Excellent first-in-series military SF. Check out other sources online for more reasonable ratings for the whole series.

Narrator is also excellent; I was pleasantly surprised for a free book. He has a naturally great, deeper, voice and is genuinely a real professional.

Great listen. April 2026

Was hesitant to purchase based on posted “star” reviews at the time. Glad I did. Good military sci fi with a story … at its best. On to volume 2!

moving and relatable

Good listen. well thought out the story flowed smoothly. The story was not openly predictable

Character Development

I enjoyed the character development which was a bit richer than many books in this genre. It’s a fairly familiar “human federation” and good officer punished with some unknown foe. Pretty good and a fun read, but nothing ground breaking.

Passable

It keep me interested for the most part. However after reading the next book in series I will pass on this writer.
