Resumen del Editor

In a dusty trailer park on the far edge of the California dream, Michelina wants to change the direction of her troubled life but can't find her way. When a new family settles into the rental trailer next door, Micky meets the young girl who will change her forever.

Despite her deformed left leg and withered left hand, nine-year-old Leilani Klonk radiates a buoyant and indomitable spirit that inspires Micky. Beneath Leilani's effervescence, however, Micky comes to sense a quiet desperation that the girl dares not express. Leilani's mother is little more than a child herself, and her stepfather, Preston Maddoc, is educated but threatening. Slowly, ever more troubling details emerge in Leilani's conversations with Micky. Most chilling is Micky's discovery that Leilani had an older brother, also disabled, who vanished after Maddoc took him into the woods one night and is now "gone to the stars".

While the child-protection bureaucracy gives Micky the runaround, the Maddoc family slips away into the night. So Micky sets out across America to find them: for the first time living for something bigger than herself. One Door Away from Heaven is an incandescent mix of suspense and humor, fear and wonder, a story of redemption and timeless wisdom that will have listeners cheering.

I'm now a fan!

This is the second Dean Koontz book that I've listened to. I'm growing to really enjoy not only his writing style but his messages. I've long been a huge fan of Stephen King, and of course will continue to be. At the same time, I appreciate the uplifting feel of the two books I have read from Mr. Koontz. Also what really capped it for me, was the end note where Dean mentioned that he was listening to and is a fan of Israel Kamakawiwo'ole. I couldn't agree more! His music is outstanding, and if you ever get a chance listen.

Interesting story line

This book kept my interest from the beginning. The characters were identifiable and although the idea of extraterrestrial beings are far fetched for most the story keeps you interested.

Good book to settle down with

I have read almost every book written by DK. I am now going over them in audible edition to recapture the thrill and this book delivers way more then I remeber when I first read it. great story and even better plot. just at the end you find out the Butler killed the pool boy with the candle stick in the kitchen. jk I ain't gping to ruin the end of the book but I do suggest you grab your copy today.

Dean Koontz Is The Master Of Fright!

Dean Koontz is the Master of fright! He is a fantastic Wordsmith who weaves intricate and absorbing tales with a wonderful balance of menace and humor. His writings often draw attention to current affairs or situations of concern or interest.

One door away from Heaven parallels three lives successfully which finally merge together as one. His love of dogs clearly shines through in this interesting tale of the bizarre and sinister.

Anne Twomey reads this book very well and in no way detracts from the story or irritates in any way.

Worth a listen!

A little long, but a great story.

As with all Koontz's books, they grab you from the beginning and hold on tight until the end. This one is no different. I loved the story and the reader. my only complaint is how long it was. It could have easily been cropped by a couple of hours and not lost any of the main story.
