Loved everything about this book

Just awesome from start to finish- great story, perfect narration, enticing mystery, relatable characters…I could go on and on. I didn’t want it to end! Can’t wait to dive into the next book in this series!

Worth the listen.

Have listened to some of the author's other books and this was just as good. Appreciated the narrator's cadence. Wish they had stuck with one narrator for the series, but the narrator was good.

Charge /Conviction???

As a former prosecutor one charge did not make sense!?!
It boggles the mind. It was not necessary to the story.

Great story

I enjoyed this mystery and love story.
I loved this narrator as well, I want to listen to more of her narrated books.

Plausible storyline

A moving story, rapidly unfolding the plot. Intriguing turns with more obstruction to solving activities in the area

Little mix of everything

Thriller meets serial killer meets action & romance. That pretty much sums up this story. The serial killer has cancer and only a short time to live. Texas Ranger Brody and his ex-wife Jo visit the killer in prison. They find out he had an apprentice he considers to be his son. Now the race is on to find the protege as he starts killing in the same way as his "father". Mix in some family secrets on Jo's side and romantic tension between Brody and Jo. The story has a little of everything. Developed characters and plot. Twist ending as the identity of the protege is revealed. Story kept my attention.

Kept my interest

The plot and characters were good. Twists and turns kept my interest.
My criticisms are that there are lots of cliches - every hero in the series is a strapping 6’4 or taller broad shouldered man, and all the women in the sex scenes are “so tight”. That’s a small part of the story, so not a huge impact.
The narrator in this book had a strange cadence. She paused in odd parts of the sentences.
Overall a good story

The narrator was HORRIBLE!

If this had been my first Mary Burton novel, I would have stopped listening and never listened to another one. I honestly thought it was being read by a horrible Artificial Intelligence voice, but I checked the title details and it lists Jean Alexander as the narrator. I started a list over five years ago that notes narrators who are so bad that I won’t listen to them no matter how much I adore the author. This gal is now on the sad list of three.

Another easy listen in this series

While I enjoyed this book and look forward to listening to the third in the series, it had moments that were reminiscent of the first in the series. It was predictable because it was so similar. I like the new characters, but again, the relationship between the two protagonists mimicked the relationship in the first book. I hope the third one shows a bit more originality

Characters are written well and I really enjoyed all the twists!

Very good listen! I finished in 2 days. Keeps the reader guessing and lots of interesting plot lines.
