Resumen del Editor

In a scorching novel of obsession and revenge, New York Times bestselling author Mary Burton ignites fear in the heart of a woman targeted by a killer who knows her secrets.

Forensic psychologist and single mother Ann Bailey has joined forces with Montana Highway Patrol officer Bryce McCabe. An expert in untangling the motives of depraved minds, Ann is tasked to help solve the mystery of two murdered women doused with gasoline and set aflame.

It’s not hard for Ann to be reminded of the charismatic Elijah Weston, who served a decade in prison for arson - a crime that nearly cost Ann her life. Elijah may have been exonerated, but the connection to these rage killings is impossible for Ann to ignore. One of the victims has been identified as an obsessed Elijah groupie. Elijah has obsessions, too. Ever since Ann returned to town, he can’t take his eyes off her. And as a mother with a secret, she’s the perfect victim for an infatuated psychopath.

The deeper Ann and Bryce’s investigation goes, the nearer they get to each other and to danger. After another murder hits close to home, Ann fears a clue is hidden in her own past. Only one thing terrifies her more than the reveal of her long-held secret. It’s that the secret itself has put Ann into a killer’s line of fire.

Watch out for the twist!

First book by this author that I've read/listened to. Very good storyline. I didn't figure the whodunit until right before it was revealed. I'm usually better than that. I can't wait to hear another one!

Good Book

This is the second book, it’s better than the first book. The narrator was much better in this book. Overall it’s worth listening to.

Who was doing the killing.

It was very predictable. I knew right away who was doing the killing. It left a lot open ended.

Narrator or Ghost Writer??

Story wasn’t bad but something was off. I am in the midst of working my way through all of Mary Burton’s books and have gotten a good feel for her writing style at this point. This one, especially considering the release date, didn’t quite sound like the Mary Burton I have come to know and love. The narrator sounded as immature as the writing style so it COULD have been her and not quite getting the killer’s interludes right that kept turning me off, but something was definitely very wrong.

Pretty obvious, but overall good.

I usually Mary Burton, and this wasn’t bad, but there are others I liked better. This story had potential, but was a little slow at times and very predictable. The narrator was ok, just overly dramatic and whiny at times.

Riveting story!

Ann has a secret...someone knows that secret and is intent on getting revenge. Forensic pathologist, Ann Bailey, is good at her job and she is intent on providing that Elijah Weston is guilty for the recent murders of two women...who had been doused in gasoline and burned. But what if the real killer is closer than she thinks? Can Ann protect her sin from a killer who knows her secret? Riveting story and worth the read/listen.

The narrator you choose really matters

I can’t honestly tell you if the story was good or not as the narrator was so boring and just awful and monotone and mind numbing I found it hard to concentrate or even continue listening. Imho

Terrible narrator

The narrator sounds like an early reader the way she emphasizes each syllable in a complete monotone with awkward pauses. I can't even rate the book because she was so terrible.

Prison letters

The clock ticks in Montana for investigators when a killer is erasing the identity of its victims. The killer is destroying DNA and evidence by dousing the bodies in gasoline and lighting it on fire. All these killers began when Elijah is about to be released after being in prison for ten years. There’s so much the world doesn’t know about Elijah.

Ann Bailey believes the killer is sending her a message. She is learning that her life as a therapist and mother is in danger by her connection with Elijah.

I find all of Mary Burton’s books informative especially for individuals who have an interest in becoming a homicide detective. I remember a time I thought I wanted to be a CSI agent until I watched the series and saw everything required to become one. In this case, I feel having this information is a wake up call offering a reality check of the requirements needed to become a homicide detective. I don’t have the stomach for it. Not to mention I don’t have the talent to pick up clues left behind by the killer. In some cases a detective needs additional knowledge and expertise in many areas. My attention to detail and intelligence is lacking.

Mary Burton provides readers with qualified professionals. All the medical terminology gives readers the opportunity to read a well researched topic. Blending investigative techniques and scientific research is received in a positive manner. Mary Burton also finds room and time for romance.

Narrator:
Melissa Moran is the solo female performer. I listened using the audible app at 2.1x the speed. This is an unabridged audiobook allowing listeners and readers such as myself the ability to follow along. I prefer to listen with my headphones and my iPad. Together I get the full experience. Having Melissa Moran’s voice in my ears was exquisite and ideal for this project.
