Resumen del Editor

Christy Award-winner Jamie Langston Turner pens another inspiring tale of forgiveness and redemption in this well developed novel. This emotional story delves into the complexities of family relations and religious devotion. Her grandmothers funeral brings Celia Coleman back to that small Georgia town that she swore never to step in again. As the unhappy memories envelop her, she meets Bruce Healey who has his own troubles to contend with. Together they attempt to escape their private dark valleys by opening their hearts and minds to God.

A certain Style

Jamie has a certain style of writing; and you either like it or you don't. This is not my favorite book by her; but it was nice. Jamie is very "wordy" and not a lot of action. I enjoy her a lot, because I like the various twists and turns the character's thought processes take. It has quite a cute "fairy tale" ending. Of course, it's considered an "inspirational novel" in that it is guided by the teachings of Jesus and how they can shape your life. If you're ok with that, and enjoy wordy thought processes; give it a listen.

Another Great Book by this Author

This book is also an incredible book. Jamie Langston Turner has a wonderful way of capturing your interest almost immediately and even though you can hardly wait to find out what is going to happen, you hate for the book to end. You won't be disappointed in this book.

Great story

This was a great story with complex characters who deal with their past, and change with the help of God and people who love them. I connected so much with this novel that it was scary. I only wish their was a part two!

A Bob Jones Sermon

Overall enjoyable but I am a born again Christian and understand where all of this was coming from. I don't think many non-Christians would be able to get past all of the mini-sermons within the so-called conversations or thought lives of the characters. I felt as if I was being preached to almost the entire book. Sort of like having to listen to 50 verses of Just As I Am until someone finally goes to the alter just to get it to stop. I did like how it emphasized God's grace and the fact that ALL have sinnned , and that no sin is too great for God's grace and forgiveness.

lovely story

this story takes on two points of view. The first half is the heroines point of view the second half of the book is the hero's.

this is a slow story of discovery of going from one place and arriving at another. it is an in-depth look of each person and their life as they go through their day-to-day life.

it was an intriguing look at relationships between grandmother and her granddaughter - of the regrets one has , it was about finding God when one has walked away from him. It is also about forgiveness and asking for forgiveness.

this book really delves into each person, and you get to know them as if you spent time with them. this ability by the author was at once eloquent and I confess at times tedious. this is still a very gifted writer and I would read more of her. The narrator did an excellent job of Performing the book. That I would have preferred a little bit more differences in male and female voices as I've heard some other narrators do. But it was still a very good book. I highly recommend.

Long Dark Valley

very long, wraps up in a rush (last 27 minutes of 18 hrs of listening - rush!!), had all the potential but just didn't come together.

Mind Numbing!

It was a mind numbing listen with the most uninteresting, extraneous minutiae. The characters were boring and unlikable. As hard as I tried, I could not drum up any feeling but faint distaste for the main character. This writer throws any and everything into the story. Never mind that most of the details add nothing to the storyline. It was a waste of a credit and believe me I am not an overly picky reader - I like lots of different genres. Although it felt like torture, I listened to the entire book. I'm like that - I can't waste money. But please skip over this book and go for something like "Redeeming Love "by Francine Rivers. That's a story with depth, emotion and spirituality.

Religious no inspriration

I really tried. This went on and on. I just can't listen to 20 minutes of discovering bugs in the pantry. The narrator did well. But this author is in love with DETAIL. Doesn't go anywhere chapter after chapter. A total waste of time. I couldn't finish this one.
