When Nick Patterson signed up for the Navy reserves, he just wanted some money for medical school. He never imagined he’d someday find himself fighting for life and limb in the sands of Iraq. When the plucky and idealistic MEDIVAC pilot Samantha Brown crashes into his life, he sees another side to the war. As their friendship grows into something more serious, Nick is faced with a multitude of choices: Should he stay in the military, or go home to the relaxed atmosphere of private practice? excellent story

I really loved this book, even though it isn't my typical style. The military genre was new to me, and the violence was a little much. However, given the story line, it wasn't overly gory. The characters were likable and well developed. There was the love story woven in, which made the whole book have a positive feel.

Will be with me for a while

The story is one that burrows into your soul and takes up residence there. Asa one who works with PTSD patients it's a very heartwarming and at the same time heart-wrenching story. Kelli does a good job of bringing the world to life and keeping you engrossed in the audio. I was given a copy of this audio in return for an unbiased review.

Great Read

Nine Line was a good read by Zachary J. Kitchen. Nick Patterson signed up for the Navy reserves for some money for medical school. He didn’t think that someday he would find himself fighting for life and limb in Iraq. He begins to have doubts as to why he is there and what he is doing. Samantha Brown is an idealistic MEDIVAC pilot that crashes into Nick’s life. I really enjoyed reading Samantha and Nick’s story and cant wait to read more by the author.

Captivating

This book is about a doctor enlisted overseas. He loves his work. After being sent home after being injured he decides to go back. The story was well researched and transports the reader with vivid descriptions of the desert. The characters are complex and make you care about them. the narrator did a pretty good job. Great story.

Excellent

As an RN this is well written. The author is a doctor and worked in the middle east. Realistic and a very good story. The narrator is perfect too. Highly recommended realistic romance between a MASH doctor and a female helicopter pilot. .

wonderful

it wasn't an easy story but it was a wonderful one it was enjoyable and difficult in parts and the Naruto was good everything about this book was amazing a very good listen to have

Good story, and some good laughs

I imagine that most of this is drawn from experience, and it looks like the author has had a heck of an interesting life.

Definitely an enjoyable listen.

Great Story

I enjoyed this story. It felt real to me. The narration was great and really put you into the lives of Nick and Sam. I felt like it really told the struggles of life "over there" and life here and how dramatically different they are.

Grabbed my attention and held on

I received a green copy of this book in exchange for my honest review. I will admit that war centric stories are not my usual. But this one grabbed me and held on. Nick is a doctor at an aid station during the second Iraq war. He and his tight knit group of other doctors and medics save the lives of wounded soldiers every day. Through it all, his marriage at home is falling apart. He meets Sam (Samantha) who is a helicopter pilot. She grabs his attention in the few minutes he is in her presence. Then, she is gone, but she sticks in his mind. While out on patrol, Nick picks up an Iraqi kid, whom his team named Manny. The team adopts him and takes care of him as best they can. Sam ends up being grounded and comes back to the aid station to assist. She and Nick become friends, but are both too noble due to his marital status to do anything else.
This is war and one attack later, Nick is wounded and goes back to the states. He cannot cope though and asks to come back to the Navy. This time he ends up in Afghanistan and Sam is right there as well. They go on a mission that nearly ends them all. By this time Nick is just about divorced.
I am not doing this book justice. The reality of war is so much more heartbreaking and it brings the people involved into very tight teams of more than family. The fact that Nick and Samantha were able to rise up from these ashes makes me appreciate exactly how much our veterans go through while deployed and what it takes to come back to civilian life.

An Outstanding Story & Audible Listen🎧

This amazing story it is the type of story that stays with you, embeds your mind and moves you like no other. It is original, well written and well told! The storylines and characters are interesting and realistic. Zachary J. Kitchen’s descriptive details transports you along side his main character, Dr. Nicholas T. Harrison and shows you the challenges faced by Doctors, medical staff and the enlisted soldiers in war torn Iraq. In coming wounded, saving lives while trying to stay alive. I loved the camaraderie amongst the staff in the medical compound, looking out for each other and working as a team. Nick was the most serious of the bunch, several were real characters, especially Joe and Tony. Some moments in the compound reminded me of “Mash” my mother’s TV favorite show at times, well the hilarious antics going on during down time did. I really liked Samantha, her strength and fearless attitude, a true Marine. I did not care for Nick’s over bearing, heartless wife, not once did she say she missed him or was worried about him, she was all about herself, she did not deserve him. Her response to his PTSD was cold too. Life during wartime is not an easy one and the author gives you a glimpse of what it was life for the ones trying to save the lives of fellow serviceman and woman. There is a lot of action in this book, real life drama, thrilling moments, moments of survival and a touch of romance. I highly recommend this story, it is heart wrenching at times but it gives you a good inside look of what so many brave men and women go thru while serving their country. This may be a fictional story but it is so realistic and could have been real, heck maybe some of it was. Thank you for this great story Zachary J. Kitchen and Thank YOU for your Service.

I listened to the Audible edition, Kelli White is a terrific narrator. She performs the voices for all characters gives each their own unique sound and personality. She brings them and their story to life from the pages to your ears. She does a great job on all the different accents too! Thanks for this great & entertaining listen🎧.
