Loved It

I loved this book. Great world building and wonderful characters. A dark romance that began with abduction and led to being purchased and kept in captivity as a pet and trained for alien entertainment. I loved both Briar- renamed Ash- and Gabriel. I was fascinated, and disturbed, by the journey the heroine is on and the social dynamics of where she ends up. It was interesting seeing through the points of view of the other characters. I've always been captivated by humans treated like pets in alien romance because the aliens don't know any better and don't view them as an equally sentient species. The story had suspense, danger, and action and I was hooked. I listened to this on audiobook and thought all three narrators did a great job of bringing this story to life. This is my first book by this author and I definitely want more in this series.

Olivia Black cooks here. if you need HEA instead of HFN steer clear. if you can deal with a bittersweet end then a must read.

[Mild spoilers]. This is different than other Olympia Black books as it focuses on both a male and female slave. As a guy that mostly buys bdsm books that focus on female humiliation/power exchange, the MM and cuckolding elements of the book were uncomfortable for me. As was the ending which was more HFN than HEA if viewed from the lens of the (human) male main character. And yet Olympia Black undeniably cooks in this one. She didn't give me the HEA end *I* wanted for these characters, but as someone that read the first one in the series (My Human Pet) and also "I'm bored on Earth Take Me..." short story, this is probably her magnum opus.

I am really only rating this a 4/5 instead of a 5/5 because of a belief that if you are going to put the characters (and readers) through a novel as traumatic as this one that you need to give them the HEA they deserve. Our two MCs (and the reader) deserved better after all of this. But otherwise an absolute masterpiece. I listened through in ~one day.

Briar begins with raw resistance, which left a lasting mark on Big. She refuses to be reshaped, evolving from sheer defiance to sharp, deliberate survival.

Gabriel starts from deep conditioning, where obedience feels like safety. His love for Briar reawakens his autonomy, becoming his turning point. ‍

Their relationship grows from shared trauma. It’s messy and real. They comfort, protect, and sometimes hurt each other while figuring out what’s been trained and what’s truly theirs.

Aefre isn’t a one-note villain. His control is obsessive, sometimes caring, always rooted in power. When they choose each other, he isn’t just angry, he’s shattered by what he never truly understood.

A dark, emotional sci-fi romance exploring love, captivity, identity, and power. Themes of pet play, alien abduction, dystopia, trauma, intimacy, and survival are woven through a story of resistance and slow healing. It’s not about instant redemption, but about what’s reclaimed through love and choice. Love seeing Gael back.

Narrators Vivienne Ferrari, James Ford, and Marcel Gauthey bring the characters to life with emotional range and clarity. The multi-narrator format adds richness and makes the story even more immersive. Solid audio quality with no issues.

Wow great title

Wow! I'm not sure I can unpack just how twisted this story is! Or how dark and enthralling it is! It sucked you in and fascinates you to the point that you keep listening just to see what's going to happen next. I will say, I loved the narrative, it brought it all alive in such a way that I felt like I had a ringside seat. Hoe exciting!.

Humans as Pets is Crazy!

“My Wild Pet” pulled me in from the start — it’s dark, hypnotic, and completely unlike anything I’ve listened ever. Olympia Black’s storytelling is raw and immersive. The world she has built is both thrilling and deeply unsettling. The dynamic between the characters had me holding my breath, and a hand in my pants. The pet was wild, and the story was wild. I will say the social commentary was very though provoking, there was a very honest look at humanity from the outside in.

My Wild Pet!

This is book two in the "Whispers from the Imperial Cage" series. It is an interesting alien abduction story with a bit of a twist. The story is about Briar/Ash and Gabriel. Both captives find a common bond and more. This is a steamy and erotic. The dual narration is nicely done and bring the characters and their story to life.

This book has an amazing story line very captivating and what's going on and keeps on the edge of your seat this was an amazing read and can't wait to read more from this author.

An Intriguing Dynamic

I'm new to books like this, so I haven't read/listened to many. This is one of my first few. And I have to say I quite enjoyed it! I loved the twist and turns of the relationships in the book, I was just kept wondering where each one was going to go. And every time I thought I knew what was happening with their feelings I was then made to doubt that feeling, AND IN THE BEST WAY! The spice was spicing, and very much felt every moment of heat. Even in the moments that felt taboo, and I loved how honest FMC & MMC were in these situations. BUT also, I love all the parallels in this book, it really had me doing a lot of thinking. Especially because the issues touched on are ones I've been doing a lot of thinking and research on, prior to this book. I related to a lot of what was happening, and in some ways that was really dark and sad, but it also made me feel seen. I also loved the voice actors, and their tempo. The different accents were like an amazing massage to my brain. And, if you're someone who has a hard time focusing, the different voices I think might make it easier to keep engaged.
