(Being optioned for film) An Award-Winning, International Bestseller Based on a true story - My life story. A young woman narrates her past childhood story of growing up in a home with an abusive father. The abuse progresses as she gets older to the unimaginable. She is terrified to live in her own home and feels like there is no way out. Feeling lost and alone, she finally tells her secret to the world and ends up finding out that her father was hiding a lot more than she could ever imagine. This book is RAW and REAL. This memoir is to help those who have survived know they are not alone with their battle against child abuse, child sexual abuse, rapists, and pedophiles. It also gives useful information about what happens to a survivor in the aftermath. What doctors and psychologists don't want you to know about Post Traumatic Stress Disorder and the rare diseases it can bring on. Survivors need to know that child abuse can affect them later in life. From mental health to mental illnesses. This story explains it all. A true story.

Excerpt
“So, Lindsey, how do you sleep at night?”
What do you mean, Jenny?” I was confused by the question.
“Do you have flashbacks? Nightmares?” I nodded my head and locked eyes with her.
“Both.” I shrugged a shoulder.
“Are you having a tough time sleeping?”
“Sometimes.”
“Do you know why?”
I leaned forward. “You know when you are little, and you want to keep the boogeyman out, so you ask your parents if you can sleep with the door open?” She peered at me as if I was freaking her out.
“Yes,” she replied softly.
“I wanted to sleep with my door closed and locked, to keep the boogeyman from coming in.”
“How does that answer my question of how you sleep at night, Lindsey,” she questioned with a shaky voice.
“Because sometimes I lay awake at night thinking about the horrible things that the boogeyman did to me.”

A.L. (Lindsey) Norton recounts her real life story, a survivor who was sexually abused by her biological father as a child. There is no happy ending here as family, friends, and even the US Military looked the other way or swept the abuse under the rug for their own convenience. The pedophile remains free and at large while Lindsey suffers the many physical repercussions so common among survivors of childhood incest. Lindsey does not go into the gory details of the abuse here as it is unnecessary. Her writing is consistent with all the research done in this field about incest and the ensuing post traumatic complex stress.

This is a call to action to all of us who even SUSPECT possible child sexual abuse. Unfortunately, there is no smoking gun for these terrible crimes against those most entrusted with keeping our children safe. Most often, child sexual abuse is committed by family members, close friends and confidants. These pedophiles are typically considered pillars of the community and seem very unlikely to be child predators. Yet, they are just that - child sexual predators. Statistically, the tend to be the step fathers, uncles, grandfathers, fathers, cousins, and other close friends or relatives. Yes, a small percent of these crimes are committed by women, but very infrequently. This is NOT a political choice....this is the right thing to do!

An unsung hero. The real deal. A difficult read.

I’ll start by addressing the virtual narration. It wasn’t as bad as most. It did not bother me. I feel so much for this woman. What she went through was cruel and she was failed by so many. PTSD is real and painful. I hope she gets better soon.
