For the first time, rock music icon Gregg Allman, one of the founding members of The Allman Brothers Band, tells the full story of his life and career in My Cross to Bear. No subject is taboo, as one of the true giants of rock ’n’ roll opens up about his Georgia youth, his long struggle with substance abuse, his string of bad marriages (including his brief union with superstar Cher), the tragic death of brother Duane Allman, and life on the road in one of rock’s most legendary bands.

Would you recommend this audiobook to a friend? If so, why?

Absolutely would recommend this to anyone who wants to know more about Gregg Allman. My spouse knew some of the folks with the Allman Brothers band and knew most of this history. He was curious how much Gregg would put out there and in my spouse's opinion, Gregg really put it ALL out there.

What did you like best about this story?

I shared listening to this with my husband and we enjoyed just talking about the book together. It's just funny and sad and all those things that happen in a real person's life.

Have you listened to any of Will Patton’s other performances before? How does this one compare?

No, but he did a great job with this reading and sounded very similar to Gregg.

Was there a moment in the book that particularly moved you?

When he talks about his attempts to reconcile with his children and does so honestly and sometimes it is heartbreaking - but real.

Enlightening and entertaining!

AMAZING book, amazing man, amazing human being. Couldn't put this book down. Read it in 24 hours. There's nothing like a true old school southern Floridian gentleman. If you've never had the chance to know one from Gregory's generation you have missed out. RIP Gregory LeNoir "Gregg" Allman.

Been a fan since Laid Back was released--was interested in his life's journey.

Who was your favorite character and why?

Well, duh, Gregg!

What about Will Patton’s performance did you like?

Yeah, it was fine, but would have preferred to hear it from Gregg himself.

If you were to make a film of this book, what would be the tag line be?

I'm No Angel

Any additional comments?

Heartbroken over his addiction struggles--why must talented people also be such tortured souls?

Sex, drugs & Southern Rock

I've read/listened to a lot of biographies in the last few years. This is one of the best. Amazing life told in down-to-earth terms with plenty of humor. Also plenty of dark-side when talking about the drug and alcohol abuse. A great read/listen even if you dont know the music of Greg Allman and the Allman Brothers. If you do no the music...even better.

Wonderful biography
