Resumen del Editor

“An oral history is only as good as its sources, and ‘Texas Flood’ is thorough and far-reaching, with Vaughan's bandmates, crew and family taking center stage.” — New York Times Book Review

This program is read by a full cast and features exclusive bonus material, including a never-before-heard conversation between Stevie Ray Vaughan and his brother, Jimmie Vaughan.

The first definitive biography of guitar legend Stevie Ray Vaughan, with an epilogue by Jimmie Vaughan, and foreword and afterword by Double Trouble’s Chris Layton and Tommy Shannon.

Just a few years after he almost died from a severe addiction to cocaine and alcohol, a clean and sober Stevie Ray Vaughan was riding high. His last album was his most critically lauded and commercially successful. He had fulfilled a lifelong dream by collaborating with his first and greatest musical hero, his brother Jimmie. His tumultuous marriage was over and he was in a new and healthy romantic relationship. Vaughan seemed poised for a limitless new chapter of his life and career.

Instead, it all came to a shocking and sudden end on August 27, 1990, when he was killed in a helicopter crash following a dynamic performance with Eric Clapton. Just 35 years old, he left behind a powerful musical legacy and an endless stream of What Ifs. In the ensuing 29 years, Vaughan’s legend and acclaim have only grown and he is now an undisputed international musical icon. Despite the cinematic scope of Vaughan’s life and death, there has never been a truly proper accounting of his story. Until now.

Texas Flood provides the unadulterated truth about Stevie Ray Vaughan from those who knew him best: his brother Jimmie, his Double Trouble bandmates Tommy Shannon, Chris Layton and Reese Wynans, and many other close friends, family members, girlfriends, fellow musicians, managers and crew members.

This program is read by Alan Paul, Andy Aledort, Chris Layton, Leslie Ligon, Greg Littlefield, Denny Freeman, Leon Nixon, Joe Priesnitz, Tommy Shannon, and Reese Wynans.

"Soul Brother Stevie Ray Vaughan was a force of nature! His fearless, furious and elegant approach to the guitar was breathtaking. Texas Flood helps you understand both the player and the person. We are grateful for the gifts he left for us all. We thank God for the Vaughan family; Jimmie and Stevie are both astonishing." —Carlos Santana

"Riveting...Vaughan deserved this book, and, as it should, the content will stay with readers long after the last note has sounded....This is the book fans have been waiting for." —Library Journal (starred review)

Stevie Ray Vaughan is alive and well.

Great to hear so many stories about this legend. Stevie had a rough road from an early age. it's a shame drugs got ahold of him so early. It was a privilege to be avle to see hin play Live!

Good stuff

Finally a book for SRV fans. At first this one was a little tough to listen to because it jumps between characters so much but you get used to it. The in depth stories behind the albums and the live performances are what made this one worth it for me. It covers his gear, amps, guitars, strings etc. and that was great because usually these things leave that stuff out for whatever reason.

Great listen

I love how they made it seem like you’re sitting with all of Stevie’s friends and family enjoying a conversation about him. This was beautifully put together and written in a way that really helps you feel like you’ve gotten to know him on a deeper level.

Exceeded my expectations.

First and foremost I've been a fan of SRV since I can remember. I would guess I was about 6 or 7 when my dad was playing his vhs recording of Austin city limits and I was mesmerized. I didn't know it for a few more years but the blues was in my blood. I say that to say this...whether you're a fan of the blues or guitar..hell even if you don't like music I think you'll enjoy this book. Texas Flood is about destiny. Told by the people who knew him best you get all the little details. Stevie wasn't perfect off the stage but he couldn't be topped on it. Luckily he got a chance to overcome his demons before the tragic ending which will leave you in tears. I'd be stunned to hear anyone didn't like this book if they gave it a real listen.

Great story, tricky to follow in audio format

Loved the story, everyone's input was amazing. In audio book format it was sometimes hard to keep track of who's saying what, as there were a lot of 2-3 word snippets.

Favorite SRV book I’ve read/listened to so far

This was my favorite book about SRV thus far. I liked hearing it read from the various participants as well. Such a great inside view to what life with him must have been like!

Powerful oral biography

Texas Flood: The Inside Story of Stevie Ray Vaughan This is a review of the audiobook version of “Texas Flood”. I have said if this was a hardcover book, I couldn’t have put it down. I couldn’t stop listening.

This is a unique style of biography: an oral biography told by family, friends, contemporaries with quotes from Stevie. Instead of reading, you can hear these persons telling the story to the listener on audiobook.

It is compelling to hear joy, incredulity and pain in the voices of band mates about what they personally experienced and what they saw happening with their friend Stevie. You hear Chris Layton’s recollection of trying to pull off great things while basically homeless; the talented bassist Tommy, having been banned from playing by a judge finding a way back to music with Stevie; Reese’s joy at being at his creative best working with Stevie’s ideas.

The talented guitarist Jimmie Vaughan’s perspective of the music scene, working with his brother Stevie, and dealing with the unbelievably tragic loss of Stevie right after an unbelievably happy performance at Alpine is stirring.

The audiobook can complement the hardcover-that has lots of photographs- by offering clips of actual recordings of interviews with Stevie.

Stevie Ray Vaughan is recognized as the great musician and kind human being he was remembered by contemporaries. He fell and got up over and over-totally dedicated to his art.

The description of the lifestyle of Stevie and other struggling artists who get entangled in the web of substances and corrupt handlers is powerful as is the the ultimate rejection and escape from this negativity.

The tragedy of SRV’s death cannot take away the triumph of the greatest guitar playing of his life.
