#1 New York Times bestselling author Jan Karon gives her beloved fans what they want for Christmas: a new Mitford novel.

When Father Tim’s wife, Cynthia, asks what he wants for Christmas, he pens the answer in a love letter that bares his most private feelings. Then the letter goes missing and circulates among his astonished neighbors. So much for private.

Can a letter change a life? Ask Helene, the piano teacher who has avoided her feelings for a lifetime. Ask Hope, the village bookseller who desperately needs something that’s impossibly out of reach. Or, if you’d like to know how a brush with death can be the portal to a happy marriage, Cynthia will tell you all about it.

In My Beloved, Harley gets an important letter of his own; a broken heart teaches the Old Mayor, Esther Cunningham, a lesson long in coming; and thanks to Lace and Dooley, listeners get what they’ve been waiting for: Sadie.

Poignant, hilarious, and life-affirming, My Beloved sets a generous table for millions of listeners who love these characters like family. With Karon’s signature humanity shining throughout, this is a season of life in Mitford you won’t want to miss.

I love Jan’s portrayal of the emotions and drive behind the simplest behaviors…she KNOWS people!❤️and the gentle humor is so refreshing in a hardened jaded world 🙏

The former narrator passed away. We cannot have him narrate the new books. However, I would like to have had an older Voice doing the voices for father Tim, especially. The narrator is not good at women’s voices… However, the book is stunning and it has answered so many questions. Of course we can make up endings for ourselves, but it is so much better when Miss Jan fill in these wonderful characters lives for us. I am so blessed to have one more of her books to listen to, and to read, and I hope for another one someday! However, I really do recommend a different narrator.

I love Jan Karon! I’ve been waiting for this book. She is wonderful!

Mitford, full circle. If you’re a Mitford fan, this is what you’ve been waiting for… SO fulfilling.
But if you’ve never opened a Mitford book, this is STILL what you’ve been waiting for. Immediate. Heart-felt. Deeply, deeply human. Funny. Poignant. Affirming.
Well, I guess I did have some words after all… but the most important ones will be these: DONT MISS THIS GIFT.

No words…

Jan Karon is a national treasure! May she continue to love to write the stories we love.

What did you expect?

I just wish I would have ordered the book, not the audio. The narrator did a fine job but not our John McDonaugh

I loved reuniting with everyone.

Narration pulls focus from the story’s heartfelt charm, making it challenging to fully immerse in the Mitford world and connect with its beloved characters. The voice of Father Tim is especially not great. Love the series though and always excited for a new one! May have to switch to reading the book.

I loved everything about this book. I hope she writes more Mitford stories. I absolutely loved every book!

Wow, just wow!

I love that the microcosm that Jan created years ago remains and has matured. I love every single word of My Belovec!

What a joy to revisit my old friends from Mitford

I was disappointed that Puny's family didn't have a bigger part. Pauline seemed to have relapsed. I would have liked for Lace's character to be more prominent, especially the birth of Sadie. That was what I looked most forward to. Dooley should have a better story line. I'll listen to it again and hopefully I'll change my mind, but I have to admit I was a bit disappointed as I had long waited the new book.

the narrator ruined the story

Loved the story… abhorred the narrator!!

I preordered the book and audiobook… I set an alarm for the day they would drop, and I jumped right in on 07 OCT, immediately when they became available!

The Bad: While the narrator is not terrible for a different series, he did not bring anything to this series. He did make attempts to create a different voice for each character - but they were not different enough to distinguish which character was speaking. Will anyone ever be able to reproduce the amazing work and creativity of John McDonough? Probably not, but this narrator was not a good substitute. His voice droned on and on, and it was hard to engage and remain focused on the story. I finally had to switch to the written book… and then I was able to imagine the already iconic voices of each character in my head. Then I made myself back to listen to the rest of the audio book.

All of the voice characterizations were bad… but Lace, Dooley, Father Tim and Cynthia were especially grating and hard to listen to.

The good: Jan Karon rounded out this iconic series with a wonderful story. I enjoyed how each character was given focus and allowed the reader/listener to see the story from the different perspectives.

A joyful addition to this special series!

Jan Karon has done it again!
