Resumen del Editor

When one of her readers asks for advice following a suspected murder, Victorian countess Amelia Amesbury, who secretly pens the popular Lady Agony column, has no choice but to investigate in this first book in a charming new historical mystery series.

Amelia Amesbury—widow, mother, and countess—has a secret. Amelia writes for a London penny paper, doling out advice on fashion, relationships, and manners under the pen name Lady Agony. But when a lady’s maid writes Amelia to ask for advice when she believes her mistress has been murdered—and then ends up a victim herself—Amelia is determined to solve the case.

With the help of her best friend and a handsome marquis, Amelia begins to piece together the puzzle, but as each new thread of inquiry ends with a different suspect, the investigation grows ever more daunting. From London’s docks and ballrooms to grand country houses, Amelia tracks a killer, putting her reputation—and her life—on the line.

Reseñas de la Crítica

“[A] delightful character-driven historical mystery for fans of Katharine Schellman or Dianne Freeman.”—Library Journal starred review

“Move over, Bridgerton! This delightful Regency-style romp features a spunky agony aunt and an intriguing gentleman.”—New York Times bestselling author Rhys Bowen

“Readers will be left wanting to pose their own most pressing questions to Lady Agony from Murder in Postscript. The plucky, endearing heroine and her intriguing romantic interest make an indelible sleuthing pair that readers will swiftly be rooting for, and the plot is twisty enough to keep them guessing till the very end. Charming, astute, and just plain fun.”—USA Today bestselling author Anna Lee Huber

Marvelous Introduction

I thoroughly enjoyed this new entry into the world of cozy historical mysteries. The premise, the characters, the mystery, they all entertained. Amelia, both spirited and grounded by her middle class upbringing, and Simon, a Lord by birth but whose personal losses have indelibly marked him, make a compelling sleuthing duo, Of course, I do enjoy some romance in my mysteries, so I am hoping for more. Amelia's aunt by marriage, Lady Tabitha, is the truly complex character who both exasperates and amuses. There are depths to her we have yet to see. These characters are well developed but with ample room for growth as the series continues (for a long time, I hope). For now, I am moving on to Book 2.

Ella Lynch did a good job voicing the characters, female and male.

New series

I’m never sure I’ll like a new author or series but I’m glad I took a chance on this one since the next CS Harris and Will Thomas books are still a few weeks away. This turned out to be a perfect listen while I finished my last crochet project. I’ll definitely purchase the next in the series.

Witty, fun, historical cozy mystery!

4.5 stars

Absolutely adored this new historical cozy mystery by Mary Winters! When I saw the darling cover, I was immediately intrigued. The story is clever, witty, and fun with a hint of romance. The characters range from charming, and endearing to snooty and downright vicious. The mystery kept me guessing with a variety of suspects and red herrings. Perhaps the most charming aspect is the advice given in the Lady Agony column which the author explains in the afterword is based on actual Victorian agony columns.

I listened to the audiobook version and it was fantastic! The narrator did a fabulous job distinguishing each of the characters. Her voice created the perfect tone for this book and brought out the witty dialogue in such a way that I found myself grinning while listening. Definitely recommend, especially to historical and cozy mystery fans.

Less than delightful

In spite of raving reviews, I found the book to be boring. I am not interested in this type of romantic tension, that may be the problem, I don't mind romance being a minor part of any mystery, but felt the relationship of Amelia and the Marquis will be more important to this series than a good mystery.

Riddled with historical inaccuracies

It is obvious from the first chapter that the author did no historical research and just winged it. The result is jarring and ridiculous. I would struggle to mention anything she got right. There is no knowledge of Victorian life, the ton, British customs or language use.
