Resumen del Editor

1895. A senior executive at the Ashmolean Museum in Oxford is found in his office with a bullet hole between his eyes, a pistol discarded close by. The death has officially been ruled as suicide by local police, but with an apparent lack of motive for such action, the museum’s administrator Gladstone Marriott suspects foul play.

With his cast-iron reputation for shrewdness, private enquiry agent Daniel Wilson is a natural choice to discreetly explore the situation, ably assisted by his partner, archaeologist-cum-detective Abigail Fenton. Yet with rumours of political ructions from South Africa, mislaid artefacts and a lost Shakespeare play, Wilson and Fenton soon find themselves tangled in bureaucracy.

Series is Growing on Me.

I found this addition of the series showing for me more development of the main characters as both likable and more realistic in their relationship. In earlier books in the series I thought the narration of Annabelle harder to listen to and as more harsh. She seemed to me in this book more mature in her relationship and her role as part of their team. I am glad to see these advances and I will look forward to the next book in the series.

Good book

I enjoyed this book. I’m starting to enjoy Daniel and Abigail, but Edgar and Rosa are my favorites.

very interesting

I really enjoyed this book. The story was very different from other mysteries set in London but it kept my attention.
i always looked forwarded to listening to it. A good choice if you want something different.

I can't read any more Eldridge

I've had reservations even with this author's first book. But I wasn't too disgusted yet. I am now. He puts his characters in impossible situations and they breeze out. He has his characters say things I don't think people said in the 1800's. No, too implausible. I can't read any more of his books. I'm sorry too, because I like the idea of his two main characters...even though they are implausible.

Doesn't stand alone

This one has enough references to previous details that it's really necessary to read the series in order.

I wasn't sure about whether I cared if this might be the final book at one point; it was filling time, but the plot just wasn't grabbing me. However, there are a couple more forthcoming titles, which I intend to read. Problem may have been that these were seeming a bit like modern characters in a Victorian setting I suppose. The Oxford police inspector was such a cool guy that it's a shame there likely won't be more books set there!

Change of narrator was nearly seamless.
