When I climbed out to the surface this morning, to scavenge some food for my village, I knew the odds were severely stacked against me. A mere nurse, I had no business going out into the sun, where all kinds of monstrosities roamed.

As if to prove my fears right, I was only out in the open for a few minutes when a pack of Kinru spotted me. I was quickly cornered by one of the beasts.

In a desperate attempt to defend myself, I managed to hurt one in the face . . . right before the creature was snatched by an even bigger monster. Then everything became a blur.

When I came to, I wasn't the same anymore. As it turns out, wounding the Kinru had earned me some mystical energy called "Bloodpoints," which gave me access to the "Hunter's Sight." Now, wherever I look, I have strange words floating before my eyes urging me to assign those Bloodpoints to gain incredible skills and abilities.

As I'll learn, there's a name for people like me who've unlocked the Hunter's Sight: Venators. I will need to keep hunting monsters if I want to increase my points and provide for my people. I might even grow strong enough to reclaim the surface from those foul beasts and the worst of them all: the Titans.

I love LitRPG, but I couldn't get into this story. I'm glad this book was included with membership but I'll stop her. it's an interesting concept for the story but I don't enjoy the writing style or speaker.

interesting concept

seems like a mixture of monster Hunter and The Witcher in some ways. it's fun that they have so many different mixtures of genres. yes there's no huge lore book or possession of spirits but each animal that is hunted is very unique and offers other benefits and challenges.

fun monster Hunter

good story, good writing, I will be vague with my commentary beyond this, but it does allude to the plot, so if you're avoiding spoilers extra hard, just know it's a solid book and worth a listen, even though technically my comment is a complaint past this point.

My only minor complaint was the main character had somehow determined that one creature would be an issue much sooner than the information presented to the reader would imply, and no justification was ever given for that.

worth reading

I had not heard of this series at all, it came up as a free recommendation. I worked my way through the book in less than 2 days. I'm probably going to buy the whole series

surprisingly good

I really wanted to like this book because the character and story were interesting and a bit of a fresh approach. I just kept getting angry at how shallow the world building was though. Really, in 200 years nobody has successfully killed a monster, even though you can kill them with simple pit traps that caveman used to build? There are less than 100 people left in the village -they can’t even make food for themselves yet somehow they have advanced medical knowledge and a fully functional education system?

Interesting premise, but the world building was pretty nonsensical

the basic concept sound great but when it came to fleshing out the ideas the author decided to poorly butcher a bunch of random animals, pile up the wet bit and through them at a wall. when all that was done ,instead of picking the parts that stuck, he pick the parts that oozed down the wall.
the resulting mess was given to the narrator who did he best to perfume away the smell of rot.

sorry for the grotesque imagery but sometimes flower words aren't enough.

don't bother

I'm to annoyed with this to talk about how annoying it was. The concept was at least interesting.

At least the narrator is good.
