Resumen del Editor

A new novel in the Monster Hunter Memoirs series. Two authors, who combined have over four million books in print and 10 New York Times best sellers, team up to expand Larry Correia's Monster Hunter universe!

Nightmare in the Big Easy

With New Orleans out of control, Chad Oliver Gardenier, one of Monster Hunter International's premier hunters, has been dispatched from Seattle to reinforce the beleaguered members of MHI'S Hoodoo Squad in their fight against the darkness.

Chad had once taken a werewolf while wearing only jogging gear. With half a dozen or more loup garou appearing every full moon, mysterious shadow demons, houdoun necromancers, 50-foot bipedal crocodiles showing up every couple of months, and more vampires than a Goth concert, New Orleans in the '80s gives a whole new perspective to the term hell on earth. In fact more monsters are popping up than crawfish at a fais do do! Chad may be able to collect enormous bounties for the monsters he kills. But there's one catch: He has to stay alive to do it!

Fun listen if you get past the mispronunciations!

Being from Louisiana and having lived in New Orleans for 10 years this book was both fun and cringe-worthy. Correia and Ringo do a decent job of describing New Orleans and its environs. (There is no Metairie Police Dept. but that's a forgivable mistake.) It was fun to follow the exploits of Chad through the map of the city in my mind. But cringe-worthy were Oliver Wyman's pronunciation of several local words and phrases. The most egregious were "fais do-do" and "laissez les bons temps rouler." They are both phrases that no one from New Orleans would ever get wrong and his characters never pronounce them correctly. I have listened to all of the MHI books and love Mr. Wyman's stroytelling. But clearly these are phrases he was not familiar with and he should have clarified their pronunciation before recording this book.

If you enjoy the Monster Hunter Series, then you will enjoy the book. If you are from Louisiana it may grate on your nerves a bit. But overall its a fun listen!

Much improved!

Ok, I liked Grunge. Some parts of it left me wanting but overall good read. Sinners blows it out of the water! John Ringo found his stride and kept his pacing throughout this one. Life in the Big Easy is anything but in this non stop thrill ride. This time some familiar faces come along for the ride, and the monsters can only be from New Orleans... Enjoy

Solid

Worth the read to finish the series, but probably not substantial enough for a second read in the future

Another Great Monster Hunter Memoir!

You know why you're here.
You know what you're getting.
Correia and Ringo in the expanded Monster Hunter International universe.
Chad "Iron Hand" goes to the Big Easy, where nothing turns out to be easy.
The story is a blast.
Narrating is top-notch, with the exception of a couple of mispronounced Cajun words.

Go MHI!

If you could sum up Monster Hunter Memoirs: Sinners in three words, what would they be?

Action. Girls. Fun.

Would you be willing to try another book from Larry Correia and John Ringo ? Why or why not?

Larry Correia is easily one of my favorite authors, but I doubt that he had that big a part in this novel, other than toning down Ringo's sex scenes. John Ringo can create great characters and write excellent action. His plotting is often flat as it was in this. The book is mostly episodic.

Have you listened to any of Oliver Wyman’s other performances before? How does this one compare?

Wyman has been excellent with all of the Monster Hunter series. He was up to form in this. He has also rocked in David Weber's Safehold series.

If you were to make a film of this book, what would the tag line be?

Big Trouble in the Big Easy.

Any additional comments?

This is a decent MHI fix until Larry Correia comes back on his own, though I'm mixed about that. Some of his other work, like the Grimnoir Chronicles and Son of the Black Sword is among the best current fantasy. Right now I'm pre-ordering anything he writes.

More of the same. Love it or hate it.

If you didn't like the first book in this side series you won't like this one. Chad is still a womanizing smart ass bastard who is a bit to good to be realistic. All that being said, I love it as much as the last one. It doesn't really bother me that Chad is obviously OP. If this was in the main series yeah it would bother me bc he would overshadow other characters but this series focuses on just him and doesn't worry to much about other characters development. Don't get me wrong you get attached to other characters but you know they will be gone by the next book one way or another. And since he is the only main character and the story focuses on just him it's ok that he is obviously a step above EVERYONE. Well except Franks of course. This side series is keeping me entertained while I wait for the next main MHI book. But if we get another one of this before a main MHI book I'll be kind of pissed.

Finally!!!!!

Not only is this book remarkably entertaining, but finally the message has gotten through that long, boring fight scenes are not conducive to action in this day-and-age. This book moves quickly between fight scenes and action giving perfect amounts of detail without drawing out ridiculous impossible situations. If I can drift off from listening for five minutes and I come back but the scene is still the same fight, consider me bored. This one keeps me entertained every step of the way! Way to go authors!!!!! (Prior book with Chad as the champion was perfect as well.)

Solid MHI story

Liked it, but found it not quite as good as the other series where the main characters are part of the Shackleford family. On the other hand: way more monsters and action !!
