Well worth your time and your credit.

This is just a great fantasy novel. Original, but not so original that you spend too much of your time trying to get your bearings. The pace is excellent and had this been a physical book, I would have been turning each page desperately wanting to see what happened next.
Larry, you are just an excellent writer, please keep doing what you do!

Ray Porter's narration? Wow ... every time I listen to Ray, I feel like I am sitting around a fire, listening enraptured to the telling of a story that actually happened. Ray is a true story teller, bringing this story, as with all his narrations, fully to life.

The "WarMachine" Miniature Wargame - novelized

Larry Correia is a talented, entertaining writer, and Ray Porter (reader of the excellent novel "14") is equally fun to listen to. So this is a really nice combo for some fantasy novel reading.

The setting of the story is from the table top war game "WarMachine" from Privateer Press. A Warhammer 40K sort of story - 14th century Crusades meet SteamPunk SciFi robots and some fantasy magic tossed in. So this odd setting is taken and given a "Dirty Dozen" story plot. You'd think this would be one to avoid - but Larry Correia pulls it off nicely although its far from 'great'.

Its sheer pulp fiction with the flaws you'd expect. It's a little stale at times, pushing tired stereotypes and paper characters around the pages. The story is also a little weak in the dialogue with Soldiers sounding like the way civilians sound like when trying to talk like a military person. We hear this "Silly Civie Speak" in Hollywood writers all the time. I'm sure Larry knows what the clipped and abbreviation jammed talk should sound like and chose to dumb it down.

The WarMachine religious Crusades setting does feel a bit creepy with the wars in many countries with people labeled religious zealots today. This sci-fi veil of 'this is only a fantasy world with no ties to what is happening today' feels pretty thin. Is Larry trying to make this connection and statements while armored in the deniability of SciFi fiction? If so I wish he would have not done that and just engaged in combat with the Goblin races or Mercs, and avoid the whole 'middle east" in turmoil theme. I picked this book up for good fun - not to relive Military service and questions of ethics and war in countries with troubled populations.

Irregardless of a few flaws that should have been edited, the book is solid entertainment and you can pretty much expect that from Larry Correia. I was able to purchase this story with out a second thought, and have solid good entertainment until the end. Larry has never left me down as a constant reader and a fan.

BAND OF BROTHERS MEETS EPIC FANTASY

Band of Brothers meets epic fantasy (featuring LIGHTNING SWORDS AND GUNS) in this kick ass Iron Kingdoms novel by Larry Correia. I listened to the INTO THE STORM audio book this past weekend and just loved every minute of it.

The reader, award winning Ray Porter, a true master, does an amazing job and performs so many great voices. The book is so good and really hits hard on multiple levels. The character arcs of the two protagonists are so well done, and the ending is awesome. Soldiers in battle have a particular bond and this book perfectly illustrates what a band of brothers is all about. GET SOME!

pretty ok

not as good as the horus herasy books. but privateer press havent written the same good lore and are not as old. will be better in time i guess.

Enjoyable

Nice quick story in the style of classic fantasy. A good fit for Correia's themes of honor, duty, and fighting against impossible odds.

Good but not my favorite Larry Correia

I am a huge Larry Correia fan, I adore Tom stranger, as well as the Grimm noir series. I keep hoping he will write more of both of these.
I enjoyed this but will probably not read another installment.
The narrator was fabulous, the characters were wonderful. I just didn't enjoy it as much as the aforementioned.
definitely worth listening to.

LC does it again

I always enjoy Larry Correia's stories, and this is no exception. Ray Porter is an exceptional narrator, and the story of camaraderie and battle was thrilling from beginning to end.

Redemption

A well written story of a disgraced knight and his men of malcontents.
This story brought both laughter, tears and cheers as these men fight in a war for a kingdom that looks upon them with contempt and their heartbreaking journey of redemption.

Dirtier Dozen

Ill only say this. If you're a Larry fan, listen to this book. You will not be disappointed.

Awesome story. Correia has done it again! An engaging and intelligent story with characters that are complicated and interesting and a great setting. Read this!
