Resumen del Editor

Jazz pianist Liz Randall is reeling from her wife's death and struggling to keep their band together. An invitation to play at the prestigious Monterey Jazz Festival is an opportunity she can't turn down, and a challenge she might not be up to until she enlists the help of a mysterious neighbor who's surprisingly knowledgeable about jazz.

When Jac Winters reluctantly agrees to help, a past she wants to forget threatens to destroy the carefully ordered life she's built with her guide dog, Max, in the quiet town of Carmel-by-the-Sea.

With music and love swirling around them like ocean currents, will Liz and Jac play it safe or risk everything on making a comeback?

Fantastic story, meh narrator

I loved this story. Good writing, good pacing. The narration was distracting, though. Jac sounded so robotic, I thought it was one of those computer generated voices. Still, I got used to it after a while. Toward the end of the book, however, the narrator missed the voice switch a few times and read another character's part in Jac's voice. The producer should have caught that and re-recorded that segment.

Great story

The story is well written and full of emotion. It would be even better with a good narrator. Unfortunately this narrator only had two voices. Without a good narrator a lot of the emotion in the story is lost. I became invested in the characters despite the poor narration so I wanted to finish the book. If you can look past the poor narration it's a wonderful story.

Beautiful Story

This audiobook was so lovely. Two musicians finding their way back from loss and grief and to each other.

Indecision May, or May Not Be My Problem

I was attempting a witty headline but it really is hard to rate or review this book. I almost gave up on this selection a couple of hours into the story; partially due to the deary nature of the text, but mainly because of Fray Maxwell; aka, the monotone narrator. Except when she did Jac; a supposedly hot woman with a voice deeper than 90% of the dudes I know. Thankfully I stuck with the story and there were moments of writing brilliance and the narrator had some moments when she was actually competent. I suppose the answer to that question depends on how much you like lez fiction and how much you already have.

nicely done

all in all a good story. two women having their own problems. one fighting the loss of her lover the other trapped in the dark of blindness caused by an acident 10 years prior thus ending her music career.
the women accidentally meet and a friendship forms and there love of music draws them closer and closer until they finally are able to forget the past and realize there is love after tradgidy.
as for the narrator she did a fairly decent job however at times you really did not know which character was speaking. this was a slight distraction but not enough to hurt the storytelling.

Great Story!

The story was great!
I loved the ability of the characters to use music as metaphors. Jazz is an amazing source of story and emotion.
Character voice consistency is so very important to audio adaptation of a stories words. Jac, dad, Hannah, etc. were all consistent. Liz went from high or alto to basso when she was away from Jac, almost like listening to Jac speaking Liz's parts. For that matter, opposite female voices sounded like Jac or one of the males. It was distracting. Otherwise, I say again, it is a great story.

Loved this book.

I loved the story line, plot and characters . I hated the narrator. I thought the narrator's voice would soften as Jack softened and rejoined the world. This never happened. Ten hours of her barking at me was almost to much. The story is great, very moving . I will definitely read more by this author.

Narrator can't ruin terrific love story

Apparently the narrator mistakenly thinks Jac is a robot. A MALE robot. Nothing could be father from the truth, but she sounded like one throughout the book. If you can somehow rework Jac's speech in your ears, you'll be fine. Thankfully I could. The story and characters are beautiful, complicated, flawed, and redeemable. If not for the horribly mis-voiced Jac, I'd already be replaying this one!!

Hard for me to get through

The narrator did not have a bad voice just not good with multiple characters. The sound of Jacks voice made me cringe. The phrasings were weak and also made me wince a little. Maybe good listen for a teenager.
