Niamh ‘Luxe’ Finnegan is trying to move on with her life after losing her last known family member to cancer. Fleeing with Søren, she embarks on a perilous journey, joined by two other high fae, Alistair and Calix. Surrounded by the three powerful fae males, Luxe finds herself in precarious situations concerning both their lives and their hearts. Together, they attempt to unlock her magical potential, as they unravel a prophecy about the fae monarchy and avoid the queen’s clutches.

A great beginning to this trilogy

Luxe is a relatable character thrust into unimaginable circumstances for a "human." This book has a little bit of everything! Love, loss, friendship, finding yourself, magic, a touch of spice and lots of banter! Poor Luxe has no idea exactly who she is and has to learn the hard way. With the help of three hot Fae (feels like a why choose moment huh?) destined to protect and adore her, Luxe sets out to free her father and save the Fae kingdom from a tyrant queen focused on killing her! This book definitely sets you up for the next two and leaves you wanting more!

Got me out of my high stakes slump.

Since taking mental health break from Iron flame halfway through I haven't been able to pick up anything else except cozy stories and dark romance. I picked this up on a whim because my local bookstore was featuring it for a book club event. I finished in 4 days. As a mom of 3 under 4 that was a FEAT and entirely due to Caras writing. Luxe and her boys are the most relatable main characters in any high stakes fantasy I've read in the past 4 years. I'm excited to start the next and delighted that Cara ended up making this a why choose.

As for the author herself I was fortunate enough to be a part of a live Q&A with her. She is sweet and humble and LOVES her characters.

This might be the best blind pick of a book in my entire life. Thank you Cara!

Fae in the modern day

Most fae romance I’ve read has been set in a historical era, and I’ve not really been a big fan. I’ve found this juxtaposition of ancient and modern to be an interesting take, keeping my attention much more fully. I don’t know if I really like Luxe, but I didn’t like Katniss in book 1 either I’ve enjoyed the story thus far, and the narrators are awesome!
