Payton Brave's twin sister, Dylan, has been missing for more than a year. So has Payton's memory.

Amid the turmoil of her sister’s disappearance, Payton feels lost as the one left behind. Her mental state wrought and reckless, she tumbles from the graces of popularity to the outskirts of high school society, where she attracts a rag-tag group of friends—and a troubling romance with her sister’s boyfriend, Cole.

Though Payton remembers nothing of the day Dylan disappeared, she must pry into her own mind when another missing girl’s body is recovered from a nearby lake, the victim’s features eerily similar to Dylan’s. The further Payton presses into the recesses of her memory, the more danger surrounds her. The darkness around her sister’s disappearance grows and the truth becomes more and more unbearable.

What she finds might just cost Payton her life.

'The Southern setting, suspense, touch of romance, intriguing characters, and the mystery surrounding what happened to Payton's sister add up to a book that ticks all the right boxes. I highly recommend Losing Brave!'
Its been a year since Payton's twin sister, Dylan, disappeared from a bus station bathroom. Despite her best efforts, Payton still hasn't been able to recall anything that happened the day Dylan vanished, and lately she's been struggling to keep up her perfect popular-girl persona. When another girl goes missing, new information is unearthed about Dylan's disappearance, and Payton is determined to get to the bottom of it. As she unravels the secrets surrounding Dylan and others in their small town, Payton finds herself going down a darker and more dangerous path than she could have ever imagined. Though the pacing starts slow, it accelerates as more and more clues mount. Despite the pacing problems, Madison (an established actress) and Miller are able to realistically portray southern culture, especially of life in a small town. The characters--and, of course, the twist at the end--make this book one that fans of mystery and drama will definitely enjoy. -- Amanda Shepard

One of the best crime fictions I've read outside of my usual favorite authors. This is the 1st work I've read by these authors and I will be looking for more.

A Must Read

This book was a pleasant surprise. I didn't know what I was walking into when I chose to read it. I didn't even read the little synopsis that amazon gives before reading it. I didn't have any idea what it was going to be about. I just took a leap of faith. The storyline was fantastic, and At first it was hard to track the differences in time but then as long as you paid attention to the yea, you start to grasp it. Also there started to be an order with that sometimes. The twists and turns were unpredictable and I appreciated that. The characters were very well developed especially "Poe". Everything about this book was great. I highly recommend it. And Bailee Madison's reading of the book was just what this book needed. and It was nice to hear the author actually read the book.

Did not know what to expect.

SPOILERS

I eagerly looked forward to Bailee Madison’s debut novel based on the blurb, a missing twin, possible mental illness, what could be more interesting? The answer is a much better book.

First the positives:
-Madison crafted a unique family of real substance. The twins’ mom had been a sixteen-year-old single mother until she married a funeral director, the man the girls learned to see as their only father. Nana was a hoot too.
-The twist/ending

Now the negatives:
-The first 40% of LOSING BRAVE was overwritten, boring drivel. I’m only kept reading because I preordered the book and wanted to know the outcome.
-I figured out the perp in the beginning of the story, but not his motive.
-I knew Payton was actually Dylan at 50% (though this was a good twist)
-I couldn’t buy into the notion that Cole realized Payton was Dylan and that he kept quiet.
-Rape culture. Josh was practically a stalker who didn’t know the meaning of the word no, yet his pushiness barely addresses and Payton’s friends practically pushed her to date him. At he end he’s practically a hero, all is forgotten.

Madison crafted an interesting premise with complex angles to the hows and whys of Brody’s crimes, although I didn’t buy into him becoming a serial killer. Murdering the half-sister he thought had a privileged life, sure, but not the other women. Madison shows promise as young writer and I am interested in seeing if her next book is better.

Disappointing (spoilers)
