Gruesome interesting story. Bad ending.

Graphic and very gruesome if you like this kind of crime story. Lots of twists and turns to keep you interested. I did not like the end. I don't think I will continue with this author. Loved the narration by Aoife McMahon. Too bad it ended the way it did. I don't think the next story continues with the ending.

Great addition to the series

I wish the complete series was on Audible, because I find the characters quite interesting. Most of the books end in a bit of a cliffhanger, too bad some are not answered. I still recommend this book.

Enthralled

I love this book! It was very exciting. I couldn't wait to listen to it. I will definitely seek out more books by this author

Violent

I did not love this book. The graphic violence was too much for me. However, the various plots were ingenious. The lead character was brave, smart, tough, and relatable.The writing was spare and moved events along fast. The narrator is one of my favorites and she did a great job. I do not think I will buy any more in this series, however, because of the extremely sadistic and graphic sex and violence. It left me feeling sad and sick to my stomach.

Never a dull moment!

I just love listening to this series! Very well written, Katie Maguire is such a great character, and the narrator is perfect for this series!

Dismemberment/disability porn.

This book is so ridiculous even Aoife McMahon's stellar performance cannot save it. It is not a detective story so much as a Silence of the Lambs wannabe fetish tale about a doctor who blinds people and removes their bones, among other things. It wasn't until a full-fledged porn scene appeared out of the blue that I finally realized I was wasting my time on this.
The text is mainly dialog, with little pause for reflection. It reeks of a writer begging for somebody to commission a screenplay. Oddly, I think a talented team might make a decent movie or series out of this. Talent is needed as there is none to be found here.

WAY too dark

I loved the narration but the book was far too dark with too much gratuitous violence that added nothing to the story. I normally don't mind dark (think Jo Nesbo) but this is not of the Harry Hole quality. I'll find another Aoife McMahon narrated book but won't be getting any more Graham Masterson in my library.
