Lexington

Excellent. One of the best non fiction books I have ever read. I was impressed by the details, the storytelling, and the care in which the horses were discussed. Also, I learned something new regarding the times of the Civil War. Many horses are mentioned in this book and it opened my eyes to the history of horse racing.

Exceptional, True Story

Absolutely loved this book! I’m a horse fanatic and I’ve never really heard of Lexington’s story until now. I loved the history of 19th century horse racing and its impact on today’s racehorses. It was also a surprise to hear some extensive civil war history sprinkled into the story of Lexington. This is a story more interesting than fiction! I also enjoyed Wickens’s writing style. It pulled me in, was extensive, but also simple at the same time.

This was beautifully researched and narrated. Between the wonderful book "Horse" and this one, I am so glad that Lexington is being made known to younger generations.

What a Horse

Growing up near Central Kentucky, it was cool to recognize the names, places and horses! This was undoubtedly the greatest thoroughbred ever born. It surely secured Lexington Kentucky and the Bluegrass as the Horse Capital of the world. Very well written and narrated! Bravo!
