Elias - freelance consultant to Monster Smash Agency, and prestigiously rare moth fae - has never been in love. Granted, he's never been interested in the emotion, but with his friends mating with their clients, the new curiosity is keeping him up at night. If only he could find someone to draw him in like the moth to the flame.

Victoria is looking for facts not feelings. She wants to understand why the monster species are so much more satisfied than humans, than her. But the handsome mothman who volunteers to aid her academic study wants to stimulate more than her intelligence. She's willing to explore their physical chemistry, but she wants no part of his designs on her heart.

Love can't be taught, and it certainly can't be forced, but falling in love with the woman who refuses to let him in might just teach Elias a lesson.

We got to know Elias in the other 2 Monster Smash Agency books and I was so intrigued by him I was incredibly excited when the author announced he would get his own HEA and I loved how unconventional it was (which was kind of the whole point haha).

First let me discuss the audio. I love these narrators and how they bring the characters to life with their performances. Jarman Day is one of my all-time favorite male narrators and he created such a perfect persona of Elias, no one could have done it better. He brought his sophistication and conundrums to life haha. All the puzzles, all the inner monologue and conflict, all his vulnerability too. I ate it up and was rooting so hard for him. Also with all the role-playing....SO DANG GOOD! Savannah Rivers is in my automatic listen list of narrators and she brought out the best in Victoria but also helped highlight her insecurities and hang-ups that hindered her from intimacy which she wholeheartedly deserved. These two were magical, I finished this in less than 2 days which is not normal for me haha. I got so many tasks done around the house while listening to these two.

For the story I think it was hard in the beginning a little to get on board with these 2 but that was again part of the point. I liked the premise of Vicky and her thesis and wanted to learn more about monsters and their sexuality. The interviews and demos were fabulously done and so steamy (that Naga was hilarious and him and his partner were fantastic!). I would love to see her bestie get a HEA btw, as an incubus he would have some fun with MSA and maybe a Kraken who we get some fun times with at the end muahaha. Just saying :)

I loved their chemistry once they allowed things to progress. I loved their way of figuring things out, was happy their "break up" was not long haha. I didnt see Elias making it worse to be honest, but that was his charm and him trying to figure out what was real and not and not trying to force something. No spoilers from me but liked the progression and resolution so much. The adorable moments with these two were just as good as the steamy scenes. The braiding hair, painting toenails. I want a man who will take so much pride in aftercare! And if you love and are open to kinky things, this one does a great job with hitting a couple on the list haha. I enjoyed this one, maybe even more than book 2 which is hard to top.

I also enjoyed all the cameos from our favorites characters from the other books. The girls night and guy nights. The helping Elias decipher things. The mansion and the food parties and all of that jazz. All these added details help really cement this world and showcase how amazing this author is as weaving all these big plots but also highlight and shine in the smaller ones and all the relationship building. Bravo, 5/5 easily from me! Favorite of 2026 so far <3

Loved Elias and Vicky!

I am a big fan of Kathryn Moon, but most of her books have an element of instalove or fated mates that can annoy me. This book’s romance involves two probably neurodiverse main characters (likely signs of autism include: having a large house in which every room is curated like a museum, confusion about social expectations, masking, and difficulty reaching orgasm due to intrusive thoughts). They take time to fall in love, nurturing their sexual passion, plentiful curiosity about one another, and shared interests into a love that resonates. Also notable in this book (as opposed to the first two volumes in the series) is that we see a thoughtful treatment of non-monogamy, a common theme in many of Moon’s other series.

Phew: No instalove
