Can love really conquer all? Book six in Katy Evans' breakout New York Times best-selling series that began with REAL.
Maverick "The Avenger" Cage wants to rise to the top and become a legend in the ring. Though he keeps his identity well guarded, he's known on the fighting circuit as the new kid with a chip on his shoulder and a tattoo on his back that marks him as trouble. He's got a personal score to settle with the Underground's one and only Remington "Riptide" Tate.
As Mav trains, he meets a young girl - the only other new person in the town - and sparks fly. When things get heated between them, he finds out she's none other than Reese Dumas, the cousin of Remington Tate's wife. A girl who's supposed to root against him and a girl he's supposed to stay away from.
But Mav fights for the woman in his heart and the monsters in his blood. The world's eyes are on them, and the victor will go down in history as the ultimate fighting champion - the ultimate Legend.

What does Grace Grant and Sebastian York bring to the story that you wouldn’t experience if you just read the book?
These two narrators are some of the best, in my opinion. They always manage to capture the emotion so well, and bring the characters to life.Any additional comments?
I thought it started off so great with hints of intrigue to the character himself and the journey he was embarking on. He was on a mission to find a coach, literally knocking on people’s doors only to get shut out every time. No one wanted to take him on and I was at a loss as to why. That really hooked me and I was interested to see how his situation would play out.Maverick “The Avenger” Cage is a fighter who wants to break out from his father’s dark, negative shadow and make a name for himself. He just wants a chance to prove himself and for someone to believe in him. His only goal is to become a legend.
Reese Dumas takes a break from her hometown to go to Seattle to find herself. She also takes on the role of nanny for her cousin Brooke’s son, Racer. Her focus is a transformation.
I loved the way these two met and interacted thereafter. It was a flirtation routine without being to upfront about it. The passion that Mav exuded was amazing to see being let out in the gym, but it was also nice to see some of that passion flow towards Reese too.
Reese was young but strong and so dedicated to getting her life on a clean, positive track. The way she cared for Racer was adorable and sweet. And seeing Mav’s interaction with the little guy was so cute too.
The build up was really great and the sexual tension was on point. The anticipation made me tingle, and every time they got so close made for some intense teasing.
I stay away from spoilers altogether so I won’t go into detail, but there’s something about Reese that comes to light towards the end that was surprising. I didn’t see it coming which was nice, but I didn’t feel the connection to her situation either. When she relayed her story, it felt like just that, a story. I didn’t feel much sympathy for her, well not as much as there could’ve been. She came in to a tight knit family, but we didn’t get to see her with them very much, aside from Racer of course. Same goes for Maverick and his issues with his father. I needed more from that story branch. Overall, actually, I felt wanting a tad more story as oppose to the sex and sexual tension.
The Avenger's redemption story

Maverick has something to prove, trying to overcome the stigma of his fathers shadow. Reese is trying to find herself and overcome some social anxiety. The two accidentally meet, forge an unspoken alliance and friendship and it blossoms. Reese has gone to Brooke and Remy to help with Racer while she decides what direction her life should go. With her loyalty firmly in the Remy Tate camp, how can she reconcile her feelings for Maverick when he is gunning for Remy?
This story is well written, solid and heart warming. I find it (like the entire series) very credit worthy and very human! Five huge stars .... I purchased both the book and the audio book and intend to read and listen again when I need something "real" to ground me.
Enjoyable ending to this series
