The product of a 1970s mixed marriage, George Murdoch learned to fight early in life, fending off both race-baiting bullies and the demons of a dysfunctional home. Couch surfing all through high school and most of college, the quick-witted, sharp-tongued giant played football, ran drugs, and bounced at clubs to try to survive. After a false start with the WWE, he eventually became Snoop Dogg's bodyguard and traveled the world with the hip hop legend, biding his time and honing his rap. When the WWE urged him to return, George became "Brodus Clay" and, for the next several years, reinvented himself numerous times under the watchful mentorship of the legendary Dusty Rhodes, "the American Dream." He was eventually christened "Tyrus," and shortly after, a chance social media encounter with Greg Gutfeld at Fox News resulted in Tyrus finding a new skill: sage social commentator. My respect has grown ten fold

I often tell my (now grown) children to be careful who they hold out as heros. For all the obvious reasons people are flawed and those in the public eye have agents and publicists to help paint a pretty picture. I must say I would be happy if one of them told me Tyrus is their hero. Like all of us he is flawed but he handles it with a grace that makes me proud to be a fan. Thank you for sharing your life story. I listened to it in one day and now I want to tell the world.

Great book by an inspiring author

Short but really good

It was a short listen but man it was good and I'm glad the author was the reader.

Not the Best Narration But Worth the Listen

In this well thought out personal memoir, Tyrus (George Murdoch) shares pieces of his life, of his choosing (he makes it clear that he will only share what he wants to share; as it should be). He shares his troubled childhood, and pays homage to those who helped shape him and make him the man that he is now. He shares the mistakes he made along the way, and does not try to hide or deny his flaws.

My take away from this memoir is that Tyrus never put himself in a victim position. Even when he was a child, he had the mind set that some day, he would be so strong that no one would hurt him or those that he loved. Even when being targeted, bullied or ostracized, he didn't lay down. It seems that for his entire life, he has sought to better himself, whether it be physically, mentally, ethically. Although deep in his convictions, it appears he also keeps his mind open enough to see situations from the perspectives of those with differing opinions. He is an inspiring example of overcoming great obstacles and rising above.
