Resumen del Editor

For decades, our cultural discourse around trans and gender-diverse people has been viewed through a medical lens, through diagnoses and symptoms set down in books by cisgender doctors, or through a political lens, through dangerous caricatures invented by politicians clinging to power. But those who claim non-binary gender identity deserve their own discourse, born out of the work of the transsexual movement, absorbed into the idea of transgender, and now, finally, emerging as its own category.

In tracing the history and theory of non-binary identity, and telling of their own coming out, non-binary writer Dianna E. Anderson answers questions about what being non-binary might mean, but also where non-binary people fit in the trans and queer communities. They offer a space for people to know, explore, and understand themselves in the context of a centuries-old understanding of gender nonconformity and to see beyond the strict roles our society has for men and women.

In Transit looks forward to a world where being who we are, whatever that looks like, isn't met with tension and long-winded explanations, but rather with acceptance and love. Being non-binary is about finding home in the in-between places.

a masterpiece for cis and gender expanse alike

brilliant, heavily researched, and eloquently architected to factually lay out the history of trans, non-binary, and the gender expanse community, a long with vital stories that helps the reader comprehend a point of view and life experiences other than their own. whether your views contrast the stories, or you find them highly relatable, Dianna does an incredible job laying it all out for the reader in such a palpable manner. They did a heck of a lot of research, and introspection, and it made me learn, laugh, and cry. I celebrate this book's publishing, and you should make it a must read.

Eloquent, Clear, Loving, and Hopeful

I learned a lot from this book and really appreciate Diana Anderson for being willing to both share information about queer history and theory and share their personal experience of discovering and expressing their identity. The fact that they also narrated the book is wonderful as well.

From personal experience to social theory

This is a vivid recollection of Dianna’s own experience as a NB person, interspersed with Trans and NB theory. I like she has a critical and ever inquisitive take on different ideas and categorizations and more than any themes, she is totally respectful of the diversity of way in which people lives their gender and labels.
