Cravings for comfort, for coziness, for contentment: everyone experiences the desire for a happier, less stressful, and more serene life. Hygge, the Danish-born philosophy, is one proven way to achieve such a life. From the Old Norse for “well-being”, hygge embodies a philosophy that is as much a mind-set as it is a way of life. Specific activities are designed to encourage you to cultivate togetherness and joy at the smallest and simplest things in everyday life.

Why are Danes the happiest people in the world? The answer, says Meik Wiking, CEO of the Happiness Research Institute in Copenhagen, is hygge. Loosely translated, hygge - pronounced hoo-ga - is a sense of comfort, togetherness, and well-being. "Hygge is about an atmosphere and an experience," Wiking explains. "It is about being with the people we love. A feeling of home. A feeling that we are safe."

Study after study finds there is one trait that sets the most successful people apart from the rest of us. That one trait isn’t wearing the same shirt everyday or some secret workout formula. The one trait that successful people have is that they know how to form good habits that stick. If you have ever struggled to keep a New Year’s resolution or if you have a hard time meeting your goals, you need this book. This book will teach you how to form good habits, how to make them stick, and what habits you should be forming. The power of habit stacking is that by slowly introducing small habits into your life you start to build synergies. You will begin to be getting more out of each habit every time you stack another, small good habit on top of it. It will seem like magic, but habit stacking is based on science.

Historia
Tired of the pace and noise of life near London and longing for a better place to raise their young children, Mary J. MacLeod and her husband, George, encountered their dream while vacationing on a remote island in the Scottish Hebrides. Enthralled by its windswept beauty, they soon were the proud and startled owners of a near-derelict croft house - a farmer’s stone cottage - on “a small acre” of land. Mary assumed duties as the island’s district nurse.

When she was suddenly given the opportunity of a new life in rural Jutland, journalist and archetypal Londoner Helen Russell discovered a startling statistic: the happiest place on earth isn't Disneyland but Denmark, a land often thought of by foreigners as consisting entirely of long, dark winters, cured herring, Lego and pastries. Historia
New Hampshire features Frost's meditations on rural life, love, and death, delivered in the voice of a soft-spoken New Englander. Critics have long marveled at the poet's gift for capturing the speech of the region's natives and his realistic evocations of the area's landscapes. This compilation, first published in 1923, earned Frost the first of his four Pulitzer Prizes and includes several of his best-known poems: "Stopping by Woods on a Snowy Evening", "Nothing Gold Can Stay", and "Fire and Ice".

Historia
In 1834, Osborne Russell joined an expedition from Boston, which proceeded to the Rocky Mountains to capitalize on the lucrative salmon and fur trade. Beginning at the age of 20, he detailed the life of a trapper in his journal and recorded his adventures through treacherous terrain, encounters with dangerous wildlife, and confrontations with the Rockies natives of the Rockies. Osbourne would remain there for the next nine years. Journal of a Trapper is his remarkable account as he developed into an experienced trapper and a seasoned mountain man of the Rockies.

A cozy book!
This book is pleasant, but kind of repetitive and not that informative. Maybe my expectations for the content were not realistic. I didn't regret the time I spent on the book though because it was enjoyable. They were a reminder that hygge is about simple things. The author comes across as a delightful friend who I would love to invite over for a cup of tea by a cozy fire. I found this book well worth listening, and will refer to it again and again.

I really loved this Hygge book, I intuitively do all the things the book recommends, I love all the snuggling, cozy ways to relax. Such a compelling read and so well written, casual and fun. There were so many elements that I do now but so many new ways to incorporate into my life. In fact, just my moments reading this book gave me such a sense of hygge that it became almost a ritual every morning to read a bit more before starting my day!
