I live the same hell of life with a sociopath too. Listening to this book felt like I was listening to my story.

A must read for every woman who is in a relationship or wants to be in a relationship. Sociopaths and psychopaths are not only criminals that take lives by crimes that are visible. They are covert criminals.

A must read if you feel like you're in a toxic relationship

This book will open your eyes to sociopaths or even just toxic individuals. If your second guessing then that is more of a reason why you need to read it.

Relevance and honesty and courage

I’m currently living this hell. Somewhere around Chapter 46, I had to pause the audiobook because I felt my future playing out in real time. The way Onna continues to endure post-separation abuse—it’s terrifyingly familiar. I know it won’t end. But knowing that helps me prepare emotionally for the next storm.

Like her, I was fooled more than once by fake niceties, false hope, and temporary calm. But now I know better. I hold my ground. I hold my boundaries. I protect my energy for my kids. My story mirrors hers so closely, it’s heartbreaking. And I know I’m not alone—because so many of us share this exact same pain.

Thankfully, we can find each other now. And because of that, I “only” wasted 12 years. Books like this, and platforms like Narctok, are lifelines. We learn from one another. We heal out loud. And that healing becomes protection—for ourselves, and for the next generation.

To the dismissive reviewers: if you haven’t lived it, you don’t know. But for those of us who have—this book is validation, clarity, and strength.

I love the way the author just genuinely told her story. So validating to those who have gone through it. I feel the pain of the author and my heart goes out to her. Somehow, I felt comforted. I always get so upset with myself because it went on for so many years in my own life. I also have children, and often feel like it will never really end. It’s nice to know that I am not alone. It’s a long hard road back to yourself but worth every second. It becomes a lifelong journey. Thank you so much for writing this book. It is the hard truth and it made me cry.

This memoir resembles the stories of others involved with an EXTREME TAKER!

A human voice would have been more fluid in its narration. The AI narrator could not distinguish between some grammar in the book. This story almost completely mirrors my own 20 year experience with the undiagnosed sociopath. Listening again to fill in my notes that will help as I too navigate a divorce with children involved. Wish me luck.

Too close to home for many of us

I just want to thank the author for courageously sharing her heart wrenching story. For many of us hearing about the subtle ways in which Paul subtly and not so subtly broke her sense of self down via gaslighting, financial abuse, intermittent reinforcement as well as many other tactics was not just a cautionary tale but a reminder of how horrifically common this is.

Even if we manage to escape these prisons, these men will not leave us alone and we all too often go deep into debt trying to protect our kids and ourselves via the courts who shamefully enable and even enhance the sociopath's abuse for years upon years.

I hope you were able to get back to Vermont and are finally out from under the thumb of that wretched creature. I hope he and men like him will one day be forced to reckon with the damage they have caused in their path of destruction, but realistically that notion feels more like a pipe dream than anything else.

This book is so important for women who are wondering why they feel like something is wrong in their marriage but can't put their finger on what that "something" is. It is also important for those of us who need to know that we are not alone and that what we are experiencing is very, very real.
