I came to learn about Natural Learning Relationships with a deep desire to be with my students and children in a different way than my parents and many adults were with me. Grow Together teaches about the different developmental stages and how to form relationships that are close and respectful at each stage.

When we learn to meet children where they are, we also meet parts of ourselves along the way. Many times, our greatest urge to control our children or force them into compliance comes from outside the relationship and from our own past experiences as children or outside influences. In entering the world of children, I have created more well-being for myself and begun to understand my own experience as a child in new ways. I am learning to nurture myself in ways I was not nurtured in childhood through nurturing my children now.

Grow Together provides a framework for a new kind of awareness that operates as you interact in your normal daily life. The aim of Grow Together is not parenting tricks or tools to get children to behave without punishment or rewards. It is planting seeds of wisdom and letting that wisdom grow within you as a parent or guardian or teacher in your entirely unique relationships with children.

I feel more confidence, connection, willingness to repair, and openness from the work Josette Luvmour presents in her book. I am not afraid of my children and growing and changing as they age, because I now have the awareness and knowledge to meet them wherever they are and grow and change with them.
