This book has great insights into the movement away from direct punishment to more structured, positive discipline that really resonated with me. The framework that this book sets out allows for a better understand between parent and child and I think that I have learnt a number of techniques that will be useful in the future with my family. For me having some of the situations played out and effectively ‘war gamed’ through to conclusion allowed me to better understand the impact other than from the initial direct conflict or situation.

Even though i am not a parent yet, i was intrigued by this audiobook and decided to pick it up. I was not disappointed to say the least! the audiobook is very thorough and the author is very knowledgable on emotional regulation and managing emotions in general. I will surely be implementing some of these ideas when i do have a child eventually.

I think we can all appreciate that parenting is hard and has so many challenges. This audiobook doesn't try to pretend that anyone should be a perfect parent. But there are many areas that we can focus on to improve. One of the trickiest things, I think, is showing a healthy amount of emotion. Rather than venting all your frustration and anger on or in front of your children, you should show human emotion to a healthy degree. This way they will learn that they can be open and express themselves. There's a balance and I think this audiobook addresses that really well. The narrator is excellent. She sounds as if she really understands the material and delivers it so well.

I wish that I had listened to this book when I had young kids. It has so many helpful techniques and practical solutions to help parent.

So helpful and easy to listen to

Like many parents, I have been through various books to help cope, manage, and guide my children into the best they can be. It can be HARD, and staying calm when your kid has emotional regulation issues is even more challenging. While my kids are teenagers, I still found much advice valuable and applicable. It's a great reminder of how to center yourself while providing a positive example for your kids. I liked the narrator as well; it seemed like I was conversing with a friend.
