I really enjoyed this new Eve Ronin procedural. In this book Eve and her partner are tasked with solving multiple cases. One being that of a dead infant stolen out of it’s mother’s womb. The other is of home invasions being committed by a group of people, in broad daylight in wealthy gated communities. Figuring out how these people are getting in unsuspectedly is a real challenge especially when they are not only under pressure from the community but their police captain as well. He would like nothing more than to get Eve kicked off the force. And to make things real special there’s a TV series being made about Eve based on previous books.
This is book three in the series. Al are standalone and don’t need to be listened to in order. I prefer starting a series with book one but if you’ve never listened to this series it’s fine to pick it up right here. Enough information is given so you won’t feel lost when previous books are referenced.
All in all this is a fast paced fun read.
Nicol Zanzarella does a praiseworthy job narrating.
Best of all, this book is FREE to listen to when you borrow the book on Kindle Unlimited.

Enjoyable escapades of Eve Ronin

In this third installment in the series about rookie homicide detective Eve Ronin she again gets involved in unusual cases with her veteran partner Duncan "Donuts". Two complex cases unfold. A sting operation involving a series of home invasion robberies ends in a shootout, then a call about a stillborn baby turns into a murder investigation. I'm so glad I stumbled onto this entertaining series which was cleverly written, fast paced, and the narration was exceptionally well done.

Entertaining, but the food…

I like it when there are multiple plot lines so I enjoyed there were two in Gated Prey. The reading was good, the story moved along and the merging of the plot lines was plausible.

Two things I also enjoy in a book, movie or TV show is when music and eating almost become a character. However… why does Eve have to eat like a 13-year old blowing through their allowance and why does Duncan have to be a slob? And why does each meal have to address these issues? It seems trite and obvious.

Also, I think it’s time to make some of the dissatisfaction within the department with Eve not be reiterated so many times. Once is enough if you’re new to the series. More than that, as in Gated Prey, it is tiresome.

But really I did enjoy the book.

an easy listen but the story isn't outstanding

This is a typical police procedural. the story is enjoyable to follow but not outstanding.

Very entertaining story and performance

This is a very good hard-boiled type detective story with twists. The characters are varied, well-described, and enjoyable to read. There is a lot of mystery and action put into the various scenes, and I just like the style of writing. It is not a cheery book - it's a bit depressing at times. But then, crime and corruption are depressing. The performance is very good.

Fun read

Fun read. Characters and situations are believable. Constant action but not over the top. I enjoyed the read.

Couldn't put it down!

I love the Eve Ronin books, and this one is no exception. The writing is fast-paced, the action just keeps on coming, and the characters are believable and imperfect -- although this detective's obsession and unstoppable drive probably aren't typical, it's still nice to hope that such selflessness still exists. America needs more heroes. I hope there are many more books in this series.

2 greatly written intertwining stories

One crime solved by another gruesome crime. Goldberg does it again. Layers of two stories are brought together in the end. He is so good at it.

Great entertainment

The Eve Ronin series is entertaining with interesting characters and situations. I really enjoyed it. I want to read the next book if there is one.
