Resumen del Editor

Welcome to Chipping Cheddar, where supernaturals are hidden in plain sight.

Be careful what you wish for....

I've only been back home a few weeks and already strange events are happening all over town. Wishes are coming true to the delight of those affected. Despite the seemingly good fortune, I need to put on my federal bureau of magic badge and get to work. I can't let supernatural shenanigans disrupt the natural order of life here, no matter how awesome they seem.

When their good luck starts to take a dark turn, I have to kick my efforts into overdrive. Can I crack the case before these dreams-come-true turn into nightmares?

Fury Godmother is a full-length humorous paranormal cozy mystery.

Wishes Gone Wild and Supernatural Sarcasm

We jump right back into Chipping Cheddar with our main character, Eden Fury, a Federal Bureau of Magic agent recently sent to her small town home to live with her zany family. The first chapter provides listeners a quick recap so even if it has been a while since you last were in this story line you will easily be oriented to where we are in the universe and how we got there. This story is full of funny sarcastic dialogue with Eden, her family, and various folks in town. The mystery revolves around wishes coming true and I appreciated that the situations didn’t feel two dimensional but really created some complex scenarios that give the listener pause just like our protagonist. There is a nice tension of doing what is needed and right isn’t always easy and doesn’t always lead to happily ever after. There is some fun development with some peripheral love interests for Eden but nothing dominating the story. The pacing is good and Elizabeth Saydah does a nice job with fun and engaging voices. I will admit I listen to these stories at 1.2-1.5x speed as I find the narration a little slow which makes these stories fly right by.

As another reviewer mentioned that although this is a supernatural cozy mystery there doesn’t seem to be much supernatural happening in scene other than Eden showing her wings once. Although Magic/Supernatural beings and situations are mentioned there is not constant magic occurring in real time of the story as in other cozies of this genre. This however is the main crux of the struggle for Eden however so it seems true to where we are in this story. Eden doesn’t want to use her powers or magic and seeing the story through Eden’s eyes magic is there but people are hiding it from her as much as she is hiding it from others. I really would like to see more magic down the line and hope it will be more present as the series continues. There is also the common to this type of story tension between magical beings and non-magic humans and the importance of keeping magic hidden. Chipping Cheddar is a fun world filled with interesting characters that I am eager to learn more about. I enjoy Eden and her family is pretty ridiculous in a way that makes me smile. For those seeking an easy listen with sarcastic dialogue and hints of magic this is a fun series to pick up.

Paranormal fun

I simply love puns snark and irreverent use of idioms. Needless to say this series has them in spades.
To get the most out of this book, you should listen to the first book. The narrative by Elizabeth Saydah was excellent there was no doubts as to which characters were speaking her voice range is unreal. Tone, pitch, and multiple dialects truly added depth to the story telling.
I have ordered Audible book three.
Annabel Chase is now another must have paranormal fun and entertaining writers I have to enjoy in my Audible and kindle libraries

Grandma is hilarious!

I’ve been looking for a hilarious cozy mystery and I think I found it. The story is good and the witty banter between the family is hilarious.

Where is the fury in the story?

***spoilers*** Eden is constantly bemoaning that her family practices dark magic. Yes, her father is teaching her nephew, Ryan, how to spell a four-letter word. Eden assumes it’s his name. The word was evil. Her mother and grandmother worked a spell that made her dad’s glasses invisible. He would frantically search for them only to discover them in an obvious place. Who was it hurting? No one. She aims to be the positive influence on her niece and nephew. She offers to read them a bedtime story. To her disappointment her niece wants her to read Brains are Food, a Zombie Story. What about the fact that her parents raised her and her brother, who is a vengeance demon, and neither practice anything dark. Her brother works in a small advertising agency.

She is 26 years-old and knows that her family has teetered on the edge of what is acceptable. The problem is with her. She does not want to use her powers. She does not want to succumb to her true nature of a fury. Therefore, for the protagonist in the story, she does nothing significantly magical. In book one she used her siphoned powers twice and tried to fly once. In this story she was able to fly, and she used magic to open the door to someone’s home.

She investigates in a human fashion. Nancy Drew got into more compromising situations and got out of them than Eden. Her assistant Neville is a wizard and he does great spells, which she uses. I had hoped that she would grow in using her powers and somehow learn to wield them in a positive manner. To bad it seems that her powers will not advance anymore than they are already.

I know this is a cozy mystery but Eden is described as a magical paranormal, but she does not do anything magical. She just constantly harps on her family like she is better than them. If her magic showed growth I would stay with the series. If the story centered entirely around her family I would continue with the series. They are funny. But since none of that is happening, no more of my credits to the series.
