This book is about a young girl aspiring to be an accomplished singer, as she moves from place to place to accomplish her goal. In this historical document, listeners are not only educated about the pursuits of Beatrice Caroline Volkmann toward a possible singing career but also about the peaceful setting before World War II, and the time period Hitler slowly but surely brainwashed German citizens into thinking non-Arians (Jews) were contaminating the German society. She bore witness to Nazi propaganda and lost friends because of their heritage and views. Two of her German music teachers were, in fact, Nazis. Through it all, she survived and became a voice against all forms of prejudice.
Anyone wanting to follow a young girl’s dreams, acquaint themselves with history, and learn about the lives of those who lived in that time period will want to acquire this book. It is enjoyable, informative, and focuses on viewpoints that hopefully will never be repeated.
