Bailey Monroe knows one thing for certain. She had to leave. With her young daughter Sophie in tow, she flees from the nightmare of her abusive husband under the cover of darkness, finding safety in the quiet Texas town of Pine Grove. There, she finds refuge in the warmth of the town folk and kindness from Ms. Lucille, a spirited widowed woman who takes them in and offers hope when Bailey needs it most.
Determined to give Sophie the stable life she deserves, Bailey begins to rebuild. But opening her heart again is another story, especially when Gavin Mitchell, the town's charming veterinarian, steps into her life. Patient and kind, Gavin sees the cracks in Bailey’s armor and is willing to do whatever it takes to earn her trust. Yet no matter how safe Pine Grove feels, Bailey can’t shake the feeling that her past is only a step behind her.

Finders Keepers is the debut novel from Nicole Lenz and one of the first performances from narrator Rachel Dane—and what a combo this turned out to be! From what I understand, Nicole not only wrote the book but also published and produced it herself. That’s no small feat, and for her first novel, I say brava.
The story was fabulous. It follows a woman fleeing her past, with her little girl in tow, who stumbles upon a small town that finally feels safe. There’s a slow build of trust, a dash of romance, and the kind of emotional depth that keeps you invested. It’s a recipe for success. At 14 hours long, this audiobook is definitely a biggie—at least for me.
Nicole Lenz shines in her attention to detail. Each character is painted in a way that you can clearly see who they are—not just physically, but emotionally. That’s rare, especially for a first-time author. With time, I think she’ll learn where she can trim a bit without losing the heart of her story, but for now? I’ll take the extra details because they made me feel something.
As for Rachel Dane, I know her as a TikTok personality I’ve admired for a while, so when I heard she was narrating this book, I was curious (and, honestly, a little protective—I know how hard narration can be). I definitely don’t have the voice for it, so kudos to anyone who’s willing to put themselves out there like that.
Let me start with my one critique: her pacing could pick up just a bit. But—full disclosure—I say that about most voice actors, even the top names in the field. So truly, that’s a minor note.
Now let’s talk about what Rachel nailed.
She commits—fully, unapologetically commits—to every single character. She has voices for everyone: older characters, southern accents, men’s voices, and her little girl voice? Honestly one of the best I’ve ever heard. And I’ve heard a lot. That level of commitment isn’t typical for new narrators—and, frankly, not always even for the seasoned ones. It reminded me of Joe Arden, who’s known for never shying away from bold character choices. Yes, I said it—I’m comparing Rachel Dane to the King of Narration. And this is only her second audiobook.
If Rachel decides to make narration a long-term thing, she’s going to master it fast. But knowing her, if she chose a completely different path tomorrow, she’d give that 100% too—and she’d succeed.
Nicole was lucky to find Rachel early in her narration career, and together these two created something special. I was invested in the story, connected to the characters, and—this is saying something—I cried. When the female main character was flying in an air chamber and felt free for the first time in a long time? That moment got me. And trust me, it is hard to make me cry.
If you’re looking for a story that makes you feel something—whether it’s hope, fear, or even a few tears—this one’s for you. I’d recommend Finders Keepers to anyone who loves romance with substance, heartache, healing, and just the right amount of suspense.
