From New York Times and USA Today bestselling author Mia Sheridan comes her next novel in the Pelion Lake series.
How is it possible that perfect Gage Buchanan is still single after all these years?
He can't quite figure it out himself. Perhaps he hasn't met the right woman. Maybe he's spent too many years focusing on work—or maybe he just isn't as perfect as everyone thinks he is.
Gage thought he left his days of one-night stands behind him, however something about the gorgeous cocktail waitress in a town three hours away is far too intriguing. But when she shows up weeks later in his hometown, Calliope, pretending to be an art appraiser, Gage is completely blindsided—not to mention still very attracted to the (apparent) little liar. He can't figure her out: not her angle nor the persistent pull between them.
Aurora "Rory" Casteel is determined to find her father. All she knows from her late mother is that he lives in Calliope and is an important part of the town. So when Rory's gallery-owning friend offers to run cover for her while she sleuths around town, she jumps at the chance. But she doesn't anticipate the man she spent one wild night with turning out to be a local.
Sure, it puts a wrinkle in Rory's plan, but she can work around Gage Buchanan. Even as it gets harder to pretend her heart doesn't flip every time he's in the room. She has a suspicion he isn't everything he seems, but maybe it's "perfect" Gage's flaws that are what she's really drawn to.

Memories of that night taunt Gage at inopportune times, the most bothersome being the search for the best description of her eye color. Those eyes that landed on him and fascinated him.
She’s felt the call to leave home for years and while she had fun with Gage, Rory is on a mission to find the missing piece in her life. What neither could know was that now she, Rory Castile, aka Cakes, aka Aurora Castle, will find him in a towel and lead him on a number of “goose chases”, many with a friend or dogs in tow. To say these goose chase are entertaining is putting it mildly. I was outright laughing.
The truth must come out and a partnership is formed. Unfortunately, circumstances prevent them from acting on impulses which are absolutely pulsating 🔥🔥🔥🔥🔥!!
Some more crazy actions and Gage is being hailed no longer as the perfect son; instead being whispered about as imbibing too much due to the stress of his job taking him to London. Add in a pact for marriage of unmarried by a certain age, along with manipulation, and more laughter ensues, along with frustration, confusion and hurt.
Pups, raccoons and cats. Oh! And the boxwood blight! All important to this story. 🤣🤣🤣
Self discovery is the root of this story. Family’s misguided intentions and lies told lead to a break in Rory’s search, as well as her heart.
Family can also be the best thing on earth. Welcomed with wide open arms, the call to find the missing piece has led to her rightful place in Pelion Lake. As for Gage, admitting your heart’s desire and passions to family is just about the hardest thing he’s ever done. He’s no longer perfect and hurting everyone he loves.
Between the pups and an old bank, love is born and given life.
So glad to see Travis and Haven, as well as Archer and Bree. The “realest” people in the community filled with heirs (and airs).
Loved it!

The main characters, Rory and Gage were likable and it was great to catch up with characters from the previous two books (which I read and enjoyed, especially Archer’s Voice will always be a favorite).
However, in this book I felt that the ending was Very rushed. Most importantly, Gage’s transformation and his parents reactions/realizations, along with how he ended things with Blakely were all Off Page! It all just neatly happened, and the reader did not experience the conversations.
I found that to be very disappointing, along with the super rushed ending and we never got to see Rory and Gage as a happy couple. Also, we never got to see Rory become successful after moving back to town.
The narration was excellent though!
