Resumen del Editor

What if you found a world where video games were real?

Jake Wingfoot is Dybsy, the legendary gamer and esports champion. He has earned the fear and respect of clans and guilds throughout the globe, but nothing has prepared him for the Singe - the real world, where losing a game has terrible consequences. The Singe is under attack by an enemy known only as Nemesis, defended by the elite soldiers of Vector Academy. But Nemesis is winning, and the Academy needs a new plan and a new weapon. Enter Dybsy...when the Academy reveals the Singe and recruits Dybsy into the war, he must train in neuro-combat and learn to fight within his team of gamer misfits. If he can't, the enemy will conquer the Singe and humanity will fall - and worse, Dybsy might never game again.

Interesting Gamelit novel

Dybsy is an interesting take on the Gamelit genre. It’s more along the lines of Ready Player One or Amada meets the Matrix. Overall it was an interesting premise, but sometimes the story gets a little bogged down as it can focus on the day to day stuff a little bit. That doesn’t detract too much, and I still found myself flying through the book. The characters were well done and relatable, and the author's implementation of the story was original. The narration was good. The narrator chose distinct voices for all the characters and they seemed to fit the characters well. Overall, this was a decent Gamelit style book and it’s worth a listen. I’ll probably listen to book two when it’s available.

Great story and narration

This story was wonderful with great detail! The narration was on point and captured the characters' individual personas with precision.

Good but not a Ready Player One

I did like this book it was good, but it did not have that Grip like Ready Player One as that is what the book reminded me of. A little Ready Player One a little Tron. Where Teens must save the world through gaming. The DreamHack, Simon, and other gaming references were enjoyed. I just wish it had a little more vivid world-building and a little more character development, but even with those small flaws I will follow this author and look forward to giving book 2 in this series if it comes out.

The Narration was also just good, but this looks to be his first Sci-Fi book, I think if this had been Scott Brick or Will Wheaton, for example, it may have raised this book by a star to 4.

I would read another in the series. Please note this copy was provided Free for Review, but these are my honest thoughts and ratings.

Entertaining take on a gamer novel

Narrator: ok differentiations
Language: damnit, shit
Violence: typical rpg violence, no major gore
Sexual content: none
Parents: any teen would be safe to read this.
Story: choppy but interesting. Some fun twists that I won’t spoil as they make the story. Good action and self reflection for everyone, not just gamers.

If there is a sequel I’d be interested to pick it up.

A Real Gamers Heaven

Interesting idea turned into a pretty good story. Concept sounded a bit juvenile but I found it engaging enough to make me not want to put it down. I can easily recommend this story to anyone looking for a light read in the LITRPG genre. Although this book is complete in itself, it is certainly set up for more to come and I am definitely ready for the next book in what I believe will be a good series.

Good GamLIT

If you like GameLIT, Dybsy is a pretty good listen. I enjoyed the storyline following Jake and his friends, however, I would have enjoyed a few more battle scenes. The narration was good. This book concludes itself but I think I would listen to the second book if the author wanted to write a sequel.

really enjoyed this listen.

Enjoyed the beginning and middle but the end was lacking a little. was waiting for something huge in the final battle and there was nothing. The practice battles had me more interested than the final battle. That being said, I look forward to the next book in the series.

great start to a new rpg lit series.

I've read quite a few "angsty teenager gets more than absorbed in his gaming" books. what can i say? this was a great start to the new series by AM Macdonald. If you like rpg lit, it is what it says it is, and Macdonald does a good job of putting an interesting new twist on the genre.

Twist on the LitRPG/Gamelit concept

I was given this free review copy audiobook at my request and have voluntarily left this review.

TLDR; LitRPG/GameLit, with the twist that the games affect the "real world".

This starts as your standard Gamelit/LitRPG book, then takes a dive into Sci-Fi. Enemies in their games can have an impact on the real world, becoming viruses and causing havoc. There's a scienceish explanation for this, that can basically be passed off as "magic" without any impact to the story. As for the story itself, an interesting concept lacking in execution, not bad, just could have been better. I enjoyed it enough that I'll keep an eye on the series, not sure I'll go out of my way to keep an eye on them, but decent enough to keep me interested.

Overall, pick this up if you want a twist on GameLit/LitRPG, and don't mind some slight hiccups in the story.
