When Monty Don's golden retriever, Nigel, became the surprise star of BBC's Gardeners' World, inspiring huge interest, fan mail and even his own social media accounts, Monty Don wanted to explore what makes us connect with animals quite so deeply. In many respects Nigel is a very ordinary dog - charming, handsome and obedient, as so many are. He is also a much loved family pet. He is also a star. By telling Nigel's story, Monty relates his relationships with other special dogs in his life in a memoir of his dogs past and very much present.

Compared to Charles' other books, this is more about no dig, eliminating weeds, garden layout, compost making, and using compost. There is also a history of no-dig vegetable gardening in the last 100 years. I want listeners to understand the context and the reasons why no dig has not been much valued until recently, and why it is now. This audiobook has 18 sections, covering the key methods and wonderful results of no dig, from starting with weeds to sowing and planting straightaway, and cropping soon after.

Every country in the world has a special relationship with wine and takes a unique approach to the making, serving, and enjoying of it. Many horse trainers, even those who espouse the so-called natural horsemanship approach, take the position that horses who fail to obey a human's request are doing so as much out of perversity as ignorance. More times than not, it's just the horse expressing the way he feels at that particular moment in time....

I loved listening to this book in the author’s familiar

What a dream.
Listening to Monty Don sharing his gardening wisdom is like the visual passing of the seasons for your ears. I only wish more of his books were on audio!

One of my new favorite books.
I loved this book, and I have enjoyed listening to it as I putter around in the garden. Monty Don is a fantastic author, and he writes about the garden and the natural world in a way that is incredibly appealing. And also very down to earth, and lacks much of the garden snob stuff I feel I’ve come across in other books. Each page is clearly suffused with his love of plants, planting and gardening and he’s included a wealth of information about each season and many different types of plants in this love poem to the garden.

If you are planning a garden, start here.
This book is a wonderful introduction or review for when you are planning your garden.
His voice is fantastic and calming, perfect for winding down after a busy day.
Note: I did buy the book so I could have pictures and found it great for getting the spelling on certain plants.
