From a very early age, I loved the countryside as much as any garden and was fascinated by the life that I saw all around me from trees, wildflowers, birds, insects and mammals. In a sense, this book has been over 60 years in gestation. I have kept notebooks and journals ever since I could write, and I have drawn upon these as well as the events of the past year.

Wildlife is not something that we watch happening in remote and exotic parts of the world on our screens, but right here in our own back yards, and the more that we encourage it and learn to live with it, the more rewarding it becomes. If, in our own modest back yards, we can help preserve and treasure our natural world then we will make the world a better place - not just for ourselves but for every living creature.

A Lovely Book Written by a Lovely Man

It was so pleasant to listen to the author’s soothing and calm voice as he talked about the everyday wonders of nature. Highly recommend.

Wonderful and insightful! - Thank you for sharing your knowledge and world. Highly recommended for those of all ages (i.e., my toddler enjoyed the audiobook with me and some morning’s would even request ‘Monty Don’). :)

This has a new twist

while you are still in Monty's garden, the focus this time is not the flowers or vegetables. Instead, center stage are the animals, birds and reptiles that have shared his garden through the decades. Typical Monty fashion, he brings them to life, so that we may smile to as we listen to him recount his memories. Highly recommend, but don't get if you are looking for a gardening "how to" book. This is not that.

Relaxing and packed with wisdom.

I will listen to this again. Perfect for listening to while out in the garden.

Great audiobook

I’ve really enjoyed this audiobook - Monty reads beautifully - and I’ve learned a lot about gardening

Soothing, comforting, a gardener must have.

Monty writes beautifully and as he reads, it fills you up with wonder and gives you hope for the future of your own garden as well as the world around us.

I have learned so much from Monty. But most of all how to really enjoy a garden and the nature around it.

Monty tak s you I to his garden and farm and walks, and talks and explain in the most sensible fashion about everything that surrounds him. His passion for nature is palpable and contagious. I will listen again and offer as gift to two friends.

Monty Don is a Treasure

Icons of wholesomeness are not common but I'm putting Monty Don up there with Steve Irwin, LeVar Burton and Bob Ross. I love the wonderment with which he approaches every subject. I have all of his books and I will play them over and over just to have his soothing voice musing about all the details of nature. I like his book "Nigel: My Family and Other Dogs" the best for the biographical elements but this one is also nice to have in the background while I'm working and I can dip in and out and hear something new about the wildlife specific to his home in the English Countryside.
