Newlyweds Lisa and John's summer drive through the Oregonian wilderness takes a chilling turn when an unexpected blizzard traps their car. Desperate for refuge, they find hope in a sign: WELCOME TO__. Bundling up, they trek through the storm and find that, within the town, the blizzard ceases, though it rages just beyond the town's limits. The streets are eerily quiet, lined with lifelike ice statues. Lisa and John soon realize they are being watched by the wary townsfolk, who reveal a haunting truth: this town is a prison, and the storm is a trap.

The clues are there, but one wrong step, and there will be more dead aliens and possibly dead humans.

If you like post apocalyptic sci fi, this will be somewhat of an origin story and a cautionary tale about AI. Themes remind me of The Matrix as well as Ready Player One. I enjoyed the pace, length and detail. As someone who’s reading list is 90% audio, this translated very well to this medium.
I would highly recommend this title for anyone interested in near future science fiction.

The story was okay, but I'm not a fan of books that jump back and forth between present day and earlier life of characters, especially when it's irrelevant to the overall plot.
