Resumen del Editor

Comedian Kate Willett was married to a woman and thought she'd never have to deal with men again. That is, until she found herself dumped, suddenly single, and mystifyingly...mostly attracted to dudes. Like any good comic, she was inspired to investigate, and thus ensued her hilarious, sometimes high-stakes personal research into the world of men, culminating in a beautiful, difficult romance. Featuring insightful interviews with comics and experts like W. Kamau Bell, Margaret Cho, Pastor Nadia Bolz-Weber, and Kate’s dad and close friends, this exploration of modern masculinity delves into how to be a good guy and how to be in love with one...and when that isn’t quite enough.

Great content, great story, great narration

I loved this whole thing. It really is anthropology and a great study. It is funny, meaningful, and real. I loved the lists and the interviews and music especially. Indeed I liked it so much that when my audible app failed to believe I had finished it and wouldn’t let me review it I played it again on 3x speed so I could review it. Definitely get this audio book

A hilarious yet empathetic look at the complexity of masculinity

Kate’s cutting insights on modern male identity is unflinching yet profoundly sympathetic. She restores my faith that there is a future where guys can be better, and makes me laugh embarrassingly out loud in the Grocery store while she does it!

I Laughed, I Cried, I Learned

This was absolutely wonderful in every way possible. She was super funny when she wanted to be, with bits of humor sprinkled across the whole journey... probably because she knew she was going to make people do some serious reflection and cry like a baby when things got emotionally heavy.

The book was very down-to-Earth and made me feel like I'm REALLY not alone in stumbling through life trying to figure things out and not knowing what's going on half the time. I like that you can hear the sincerity in her voice when she candidly speaks - the authenticity really shines through. I feel very inspired after hearing about her experiences... inspired to keep pushing forward without trying to be someone who I am not, while trying to figure out who I am. I highly recommend this audiobook!!!

Great memoir

Great memoir. Well written and read with nice interview interludes for the audio format. It is a memoir. If you're expecting serious scholarship from a comedian, look elsewhere. If you're interested in some good personal stories with some thoughtful, humorous, and heartfelt reflection, then this should be enjoyable.

Totally Needed This

So much of this story was incredibly relatable and so super eye opening. I loved how personal it was and how you get to hear stories from multiple points of view. Kate really opened my mind to a lot of things including my relationships with my family and friends, and just a general perspective of the world. The only thing I wish I could have changed was a more consistent volume level. A couple of the transitions were like when the commercials are way too loud on TV.

Delightful! Kate is funny, authentic, courageous!

Kate Willet is fantastic! What a joy to listen to her audiobook! She reflects on her past using humor and the stories easily engaged me. I felt inspired by Kate's character strength. Her hilarious takes on contemporary social and political issues had me mesmerized. I learned a lot while being delightfully entertained. I loved her honesty and her courage. I loved how she shared and interviewed other significant people in her life with realness. I felt that I was brought into the orbit of Kate's personality and her life and I loved being there.

Didn’t expect it but I loved this audiobook

I stumbled onto this while trying to get away from a too deep novel. Granted, I don’t know anything about stand up comics, so maybe this was naive, but thought it would be a short light heated tale about dirtbags. I didn’t expect thoughtful relationship advice from an acid dropping bisexual woman who lived in a warehouse rented out by a guy named Chicken. But here it was: a story that addressed challenging topics of feminism, “positive” masculinity, and relationships in general in an engaging way. So much appreciated!

A real gem

Insightful, relatable and vulnerable. And still somehow funny. Kate Willett makes me proud to be a human and encouraged by her generation.

overall i really liked listening to this book.

we are on opposite ends of the ideological Spectrum politically and that was trying but I'm a conservative so I can actually listen to things that I disagree with, without my mind exploding. I can only hope that liberals would develop that skill and not be so judgmental. you did good Kate.
