My Favorite Living Author

Just writing that made me experience a sudden bout of terror fearing Caimh's passing. DONT DIE, CAIMH! Because I cannot manage this vale of tears without you.

On that cheery note. In my opinion, Caimh is the natural successor to Pratchett. Three reasons: Humor, social commentary from a man with his heart in the right place, and last, that heart. Though both Pratchett and MacDonnell can express a somewhat jaundiced (and entirely justified) view of Humanity, both also show a genuine caring for the struggling among us. Whip-smart and funny as hell, Caimh is one of those rare personal heroes of mine that I'd actually love to meet. I've lived long enough to learn that that isn't always a good idea, but I'm pretty sure Caimh would be lovely craic and genuinely kind. If he ever comes to the USA, maybe I'll find out!

In the meantime, I await all his books with great enthusiasm. He's never let me down yet, and I can recommend this one as thoroughly as all the rest. Write on, Caimh, and we'll keep buying, borrowing, and stealing your books. And if you, Audible listener, haven't picked up any of his work, go get some now. You wont be sorry!

Light, fun, interesting

No politics (whew), likable characters, and a plot complex enough to be interesting Yes please!!!

don't read/listen while next to sleeping mate

As always, much laughter, familiar characters, laughing, well-written story, and more laughing. Can be a stand alone book but it would be a shame to rob yourself of this author/ narrator duo. McDonnell's humorous imagination is delivered with masterful voice. This author is among my favs, like Sir Terry Pratchett, Douglas Adams, and anything by the Month Python crew.

Another good time with MCM investigations!

Caimh McDonnell’s Dublin Trilogy have been my go to books for good fun. I love the richness of the characters, both major and minor. They’re funny, quirky and lovable. Bridget is one of my favorite contemporary heroines, she’s down-to-earth, caring and strong. Bridget literally kicks @ss. I gave this one 4 stars only because it wasn’t my favorite of the series ( the story was more predictable than the others ) and because I’m trying to give a realistic rating given this scale is suppose to rate ALL books in the history of literature. Morgan C. Jones does a fabulous job narrating them - his voices are original and his comedic timing is perfect, He naturally brings to life Mr. McDonnell’s novels, capturing all of the emotion and humor

Another great read

Both the author and narrator pull off another near perfect a audio book. McDonnell’s characters shine again in this quirky comedy.

May They All Suffer from Mild Financial Hardship

All being everyone involved in making these wonderful books. There are several authors and narrators out there making altogether too much money (and some suffering debilitating fame hangovers) to be pressured into producing enough books to please me. The author and narrator of this extended series deserve just enough success to keep them at it with great dedication. Readers who appreciate strong, quirky characters, excellent writing (especially dialogue) and can't-miss narration, and who enjoy frequent often unexpected laughs (the Bunny series connected to these books can be very serious, but still funny) should discover these books in large, ravening hordes.

I don't know how I bumped into these around the same time I discovered J. D. Kirk (a dangerous author indeed - but who's Hoon books can be incredibly funny at times). Maybe I'd read some Westlake-Stark books while listening to bagpipe music - highland and uilleann - playing in the background while recovering from a beating? Regardless, I'm convinced there are some exceedingly good Celtic authors out there that I need to hunt down and devour. This is one.

I devoured all of Caimh's books in less than a month! I can’t wait for the next one to come out. Hint hint...
