The year is 1943, and Argentina is officially neutral, but crawling with every kind of spy, sympathizer, and military official imaginable. The hero is Cletus Frade, a Marine pilot recruited by the OSS, with strong family ties to Argentina. And in Death and Honor - Griffin's fourth book in the Honor Bound series and the first since 1999 - he's got a lot on his hands.

OSS chief Wild Bill Donovan has asked him to set up his own official-but-really-OSS airline in Argentina, using "loaned" Lockheed Lodestars and Constellations. Of even more concern are two interwoven German operations. The first is a government scheme for Jews outside the Fatherland to purchase the freedom of their relatives in concentration camps, who will then be transported to Argentina and Uruguay.

The second has to do with where that money is going: a plan called Operation Phoenix, which will establish safe havens for senior Nazi officials in Argentina, Brazil, and Paraguay. Needless to say, the OSS is very interested in both of them, and if Frade can somehow find out a little more . . . without getting killed, that is. Which, as Frade is about to find out, is easier said than done.

Rich with the special flair that Griffin's fans have long come to expect from him, Death and Honor is another "immensely entertaining adventure" (Kirkus Reviews) from one of our finest storytellers.

Reseñas de la Crítica

"Solid...In a story that's more spy-vs.-spy than military action, the authors meticulously recreate place and time." (Publishers Weekly)

Another great book in the "Honor Bound" series.

Where are the other books in this series? ie:Books 2 & 3

Great Book/Series

The performance was good, unfortunately the author spends the 1st 11 chapters recapping their previous 3 books. Despite the recap I found myself enjoying the story and getting deeply involved in the plot.

I enjoyed it.

Where does Death and Honor rank among all the audiobooks you’ve listened to so far?

I really enjoyed the book, the presentation was outstanding. One of his best!

What other book might you compare Death and Honor to and why?

The Honor series is exceptional!

Did Scott Brick do a good job differentiating all the characters? How?

It was well done, an easy listen.

If you were to make a film of this book, what would the tag line be?

Once and forever!

Out Frickin Standing

I'm not encouraging anyone to cheat and go the end of this book...you're just not going to believe how this one ends. W.E.B. Griffin is a master at using real history and blend a fictional plot like no other. You will not be disappointed.

Captivating and Exciting

This one was a good or better than the last I look forward to the next book in the series.

Another great story

The narration is great but the story HS a couple improbable character appearances that veer into Forrest Gump territory.

Jumped the shark?

W.E.B Griffin gives phonetic definitions on how to pronounce names, yet you so called professional readers insist on mispronouncing Cletis Frade's name. It is not "fraid", it is pronounced "Frah Day".

Death and Honor was published nine years after Secret Honor and I wonder if Griffin did not initially plan to end the series with the earlier book which ended on the depressing note of German (but anti-Nazi) aviator, Peter, being told to commit suicide or have his father pulled down with him when his treason was exposed. At the start of this book, Peter has not only failed to kill himself, but the man who ordered him to do so has also decided to switch sides and secretly feed information to the Americans. Griffin goes to great lengths to justify this, but frankly, I never bought it. I think the books would have been better with Clete having to deal with his friend’s death and the role he himself had played in leading up to it.

The main plot of the current novel is FDR’s instructions (passed down to Clete through the OSS chain of command) to form an Argentine airline. It was interesting watching Clete put the airline together and everyone involved wonder why FDR wanted them to do it. There is also, of course, continuing concern over the Nazis as they finally get the submarine resupply operation functioning again after Clete destroyed the first resupply ship in the first novel.

I really enjoyed this book, but it didn’t have the gravitas of the first three novels. I’m hoping that Griffin can recapture his full stride in the next one.
