Gritty WWII Combat Stories

I enjoyed this series of books. After finishing the Crash Dive series from this author, I was looking forward to this series and Mr. Dilouie did not disappoint. Lots of action. The characters are well-developed. And as the series went on I grew more attached to them. I felt the author did a good job blending action with historical description, and struck a decent balance developing fully rounded characters. The books follow a crew through Africa and the European campaign of WWII, ending with the fall of Nazi Germany.

Good story and narration

Easy listen. Good story. I’d find myself listening to only five minutes at a time if that’s all I had.

Great tale of bravery and perserverance

This was a tremendous story about the war in North Africa and Europe, about the bonds of battle forged between strangers who become brothers, and the horrors of war that can last well beyond its end.

Great series of books

Easy listening story line with decent characters. Rooted with seriousness and humor at some points. Brings a certain amount of vividness to the story, similar to his other series "Crash Dive".

Great characters, well read and a good guide on the European phase of WW II.

This is a fun listen. I highly recommend it for tank nuts.

If you love armor and ww2 you will enjoy this series. First off, it’s a great value. You get a lot of listening for one credit. Second the narrator does an amazing job. I hope I come across him more. Some readers whom do characters kind of struggle to make them separate without cheesing it up a bit. None of that here. Even the accents are well done.

Now the story. It’s pretty good. I debated between four or five stars here. For the vast majority it is excellent. Fits the historical backdrop. Always referencing actual drives and engagements. It’s really well done in that sense. The dialogue between the crew is for the most part, and I’m kind of inclined to nit pick here, is pretty strong. However, I doubt anyone will notice the things I did and so I give it a well earned 4.5.

Another really cool thing about this set of stories is that there is sound effects. Now I normally hate them. As well as music, in audiobooks. However, it’s really low key and used sparingly. So that when you hear a Stuka dive it adds to the character’s fear instead of blending into the background noise as well... background noise. It contributes well to the world the author has created.

Check this out if you want some tank action. It’s easily top 3 in tank fiction on audible. Far, far, to many in this genre are full of cliches and corney dialogue. This one was a pleasure.

If you are a fan of World War 2 history and military fiction then this one is for you ! The author takes you behind the scenes of American tank warfare thru the eyes and souls of a Sherman tank crew starting in North Africa all the way to the Elbe River in Germany. If you read or listen to this amazing story you'll find it very hard to stop once you start...

Excellent book

I really enjoy the authors knowledge of armor vehicles. and the way the crew interacted with each other, the hardship of being in the armored vehicle in all kinds of weather

Good character development

The author did a good job developing each character so the reader would care about the fate of each.

A Good Listen

The author I able to get the reader feeling as though they are in the tank and on the battlefield with the tank crew.
