Necromancer is such an ugly word, but it's a title Eric Carter is stuck with.

He sees ghosts, talks to the dead. He's turned it into a lucrative career putting troublesome spirits to rest, sometimes taking on even more dangerous things. For a fee, of course.

When he left LA fifteen years ago, he thought he'd never go back. Too many bad memories. Too many people trying to kill him.

But now his sister's been brutally murdered and Carter wants to find out why.

Was it the gangster looking to settle a score? The ghost of a mage he killed the night he left town? Maybe it's the patron saint of violent death herself, Santa Muerte, who's taken an unusually keen interest in him.

Carter's going to find out who did it, and he's going to make them pay.

As long as they don't kill him first.

The world created in this book is very interesting. The lead character waffles between cocky and self-effacing. Too much to be believed. could have done better

Great premise; Bad execution

Narration was not paced well. Story could be better. The humor falls flat I guess from the pace of the narration. Either the narrator or the editors fault.

Audible is on a winning streak of great audio books I’ve listened to recently. The thing about audiobooks for me are as follows:
• Engaging Narrators.
• Good story.
• Character development.

We listen to a audiobook to save time when you don’t have time to read it ourselves. Well while listening a story, if the one telling the story isn’t compelling, committed or just reading the story. It ends up being just a recital of a plethora of math formulas.

That’s not what we want! Well luckily, the narrator “Rudy Sandar”does the book “Dead Things” a great justice with his range of voices! Rudy’s “the narrator” has a command in his ability to weave seamlessly into each character.

As a listener I was pleasantly fooled into forgetting that it was one person performing all these voices…
This made the story such a joy to delve into, being able to imagine every scenario that the protagonist “Eric Carter”, Vivian, Alex, Griffin, Santa Muerte’ Tabitha and others found themselves in!

A good audiobook starts with a good narrator and it doesn’t matter if the story is good on its own! Because if you are not getting the right vibe from the narrator you won’t be compelled to enjoy the great story ahead!

Dead Things is a great story piloted by an excellent narrator.. I enjoyed this first book and look forward to more in the series.. Bravo!!!🤓

Great story, compelling protagonist, menacing villains!

Ugga bugga! I know my title sounds cavemannish but man after coming off my high of binging Harry Dresden and the awesome narration by James Marsters - this one made my head hurt. All the characters sounded like Woody Allen ugh. It’s too bad too because the story was really interesting if you can get past the voices.

Story good - narrator bad

I enjoyed the concepts around the dead and the gods involved. The magic and rituals in utilzing the dead was well thought out. I thought the characters were a little over the top at times and not particularly likeable.

The plot has a lot of moving parts and a big cast involved. I think it would've served the plot better to have cut some of the characters to focus on expanding some of the others and their relationships to Eric.

The narration was good, but a lot of the cast didn't sound like real people or particularly fit how they were described in my opinion. Really felt like Alex deserved a better voice.

Cool Ghost Story a little over the top
