Resumen del Editor

Kyle Tait, having survived the harrowing, cross-country journey home to his family, must now struggle for existence in a post-EMP world that no one could have imagined just three short months prior.

Each day brings new challenges - how to fight the bitter cold, where to scavenge food for the table, and how to best fend off intruders and keep their community safe. As the cold, dark days of winter begin the slow transition to spring, the Tait family is faced with a challenge that dwarfs all others and threatens to shatter their already precarious grip on sanity. Kyle and Jennifer are once again forced to endure a trial that threatens the survival of each member of their family.

Follow Kyle, Jennifer, and the citizens of Deer Creek, Montana, as they plumb the depths of their resourcefulness, strength, endurance, and humanity while struggling together to survive the daunting days of winter.

Excellent book series

I’m trying to find info on any upcoming books in the series. I know there had to be more! This particular audiobook was great. The only reason I gave four stars to Neil’s reading is because there were a few things he read that you could tell he’s not familiar with, so it just sounded funny when he said it. Other than that he did great and the story, just like 77 Days of September, was awesome!

Always enjoy listening to this book

I’ve ready 77 Days in September and Daunting Days of Winter several times. I’ve now listened to both multiple times. Ray does a great job with his stories.

Our boy Kyle has no luck at all.

Kyle comes home and is grateful to find his family in one piece. His wife, Jennifer has had quite the difficulties with Doug the deputy sheriff to say the least. Doug would not give up coming on to Jennifer to the point where Jennifer finally had to shoot him to stop the abuse. Then instead of Kyle having a happy homecoming, he is accused and found guilty of raping and killing a young woman who is found in his prior abandoned house. Not finding a community member willing to execute Kyle he is exiled from the community and sent on his way. Meanwhile, Rose Duncan is having her own helping of bad luck and for her own safety must leave her home. The only person she can think of to go to is Kyle, so she heads out for his homestead as she remembers it. Rose and Kyle are both ambushed on their separate ways and manage to survive. Rose eventually shows up at Kyle’s home, but Kyle is not there being exiled from the community. Kyle’s wife is home though and she doesn’t know what to make of Rose’s explanation of her knowing Kyle and traveling all this way to get to him. Further conversation set her mind at ease, to the point that she asked Rose to be a character reference for Kyle. Our boy Kyle has no luck at all. If it’s not people trying to kill him, it’s bears. Good story, good characters, better than book one to be sure. I’ll look for book three.

the story was good, but...

the narrator was so bad I almost deleted the book. it was painful. the plot had me on the edge of my seat for the most part which is why I completed the book but for the love of Pete, invest in a better narrator because I will not buy a book again with this guy.

Welcome to the "Kill Kyle" series!

Where does Daunting Days of Winter rank among all the audiobooks you’ve listened to so far?

I have read over 40 post-apocalypse books and this is a solid survivalist story. -- It's not over-the-top with politics, religion or ethnic stereotypes like many of the newer books entering the genre.

What was one of the most memorable moments of Daunting Days of Winter?

Kyle cannot catch a break. All of the scenarios are totally believable and they come one after another. It's like post apocalyptic Seinfeld.

What aspect of Neil Hellegers’s performance would you have changed?

The narrator sounded like a parody of a narrator during the opening remarks. You get used to it after awhile and also you can tell in various sections where the narrator reads with a different tone and inflection. All of which is much better than the narration in opening minutes of this audiobook... so, it gets better. There were several sections of the story where sentences where repeated but overall not too distracting and more for an editing issue than the narrator.

Review

Enjoyed this immensely. One character line I noted- It is sad that the author stayed too much to some traditional male/female roles. He could have made Jennifer more like the strong young women I know.

Ok...

Really liked the first book. Was expecting more of the same. Narrator started off poorly but got better. Just not impressed this time.

A perfect sequel to 77 Days in September

This was really a perfect sequel to 77 Days in September; if you liked that book, you will like this one equally and for the same reasons. The author has a way of really stirring up my emotions like few others can. There was one character who gave me pause as his dialog came off very "preachy" (about prepping, not god). It seemed cheesy and scripted at first, but it didn't last long. Also, I do appreciate the author's intent with the sermon. I sure hope Mr. Gorham is hard at work on the next book!

Narrator Sucks but the story is good

How did the narrator detract from the book?

The narrators voice inflection and timing was not good

Any additional comments?

I recommend the series but just be prepared for the narrator to not be anywhere near as good as the first one. He was way way to dramatic in his reading and it actually got annoying at times. The story however is a great addition and follow-on from the 1st book. I strongly recommend it
