Resumen del Editor

Life in the frozen wastelands of Texas is anything but easy, but for Clay Whitaker there is always more at stake than mere survival.

It's been seven years since the ash billowed into the atmosphere, triggering some of the harshest winters in recorded history. Populations are thinning. Food is scarce. Despair overwhelming. With no way to sustain order, societies collapsed, leaving people to fend for themselves.

Clay and his sister Megan have taken a handful of orphaned children into their home - a home soaring 16 stories into the sky. With roughly six short months a year to gather enough food and supplies to last the long, brutal winter, Clay must spend most of his time away from his family to scavenge, hunt, and barter.

When Clay rescues a young woman named Kelsey from a group of Screamers, his life is catapulted into a new direction, forcing him to make decisions he never thought he would have to make.

Now, with winter rolling in earlier than ever, Clay's divided attention is putting him, and his family, at risk.

An incredible story that is really hard to put dow

AJ Powers weaves a tale of life on the hard prairie after the world is destroyed by a volcanic eruption and constant earthquakes. In this book Clay has a family on the sixteenth floor of an old office building comprised of mainly children. This story is so incredible and shows the power of love and family that is woven through the very fabric of this tale. Clay is such a strong male character and he is one of the most well written characters since Orry Main and George Hazzard in John Jakes' North And South. I truly enjoyed the story and ended up buying the ebook because I had such a hard time turning it off in my car. The narrator does a great job telling the story and doing the different voices of the characters. I especially liked the voice he used for Charlie. I'm especially looking forward to book two to see what happens with these awesome characters. I am so sure it will not dissappoint because book one had so many twists and turns for this tiny family and for Clay himself that really made this world as true to life as possible.

Story was awesome...but I was not impressed by the narrator!!!

I really loved the story line but I am so used to listening to female narrator‘s that this one sounded strange ...

Great story

Where does As the Ash Fell rank among all the audiobooks you’ve listened to so far?

It's one of the best books that I've listened to in this particular genre - with or without zombies. I am intrigued by the apocalypse genre in general.

Who was your favorite character and why?

I really liked Dusty, she was a very memorable character. Tough and capable and yet likable and vulnerable too.

Have you listened to any of Aaron Cleveland’s other performances before? How does this one compare?

This is the first Aaron Cleveland narrated book that I've listened to. It was very good, you can definitely tell that each character had their own voice and it made for a great listen.

Was there a moment in the book that particularly moved you?

The eulogy for Charlie was very poignant overall. Doesn't every parent hope for their son to grow up to love, protect and serve others?

Any additional comments?

Great story overall. If you like guns, prepping, Christian values, and apocalyptic story lines - this book is for you.

Best Apocalyptic Book I have read in a while.

Would you recommend this audiobook to a friend? If so, why?

Yes. I would recommend this book to a friend. Especially if they are into this genre.

What other book might you compare As the Ash Fell to and why?

The Survivor series. Although not as technical it falls along the same lines.

Which scene was your favorite?

My favorite scene is when Charlie has to kill someone and how hard he takes it. It shows that it is not easy for most of us to kill someone and that humanity is still alive.

If you were to make a film of this book, what would the tag line be?

In Spite of the Ashes

Any additional comments?

I was voluntarily provided this free review copy audiobook by the author, narrator, or publisher.

Fantastic!

AJ nailed this genre perfectly! This story is packed full of adventure, excitement, and a grim realism that might make you want to get a little more enthusiastic about prepping. It also bypasses all the extra graphic scenes and is safe for the YA readers.

Saccharine "survival" story.

Average post-apocalyptic tale with some adventerous highlights, particularly when the protagonist is on the road truly surviving. Otherwise, dull and predictable with conservative 1950's style character "development" and relationships. The narrator does a good enough job with adult male voices but female and children's voices are laughably bad and almost unlistenable. Buy "Gray" by Lou Cadle for good writing, great storytelling, and excellent narration. Skip this one until you've exhausted every other "survival" book.
